Yun-p'eng, whose lifetime extended from the latter part of the 16th
century to the early part of the17th century, was born at Hsiu-ning,
Anhwel. He was an artist as well as a scholar and poet. His style name was
Nan-yu, his sobriquet Sheng-hua Chu-shih. For portraits of Buddhist
figures, he studied the works of Wu Tao-hsuan (T'ang Dynasty) and Li
Lung-mien (Northern Sung Dynasty). His landscapes also attained the
'wonderful' category. |
