Chia Shih-ku came from K'aifeng in Honan. During the period 1131-1162 he held an appointment in the Imperial Painting Academy. His chief talent was for portraits of Buddhist and Taoist deities. He derived his technique of clear, outline drawing from Li Kung-lin, and managed to express his own self-possessed, relaxed personality.
