Ben Dixon
Ben Dixon first appears in Macross with his friend Max Sterling when they are assigned to the newly formed Black Squadron under the command of Rick Hunter. Ben is friendly, loud, rather tactless and over-confident. He believes he is a great pilot, but in truth he is only average, it is most Max and Rick who keep him from getting killed. Ben is constantly on the look-out for action which gets him into dangerous positions in the first place.
Ben along with Rick, Max and Lisa Hayes are captured by the Zentraedi after the radar tower of the SDF-1 is demaged and Lisa is sent on a recon mission.
Even in a dire situation like this Ben is not much help, but thanks to Max, Rick and Lisa they all manage to escape the Zentraedi soon after they are interrogated by Commander in Chief Dolza. The four are then spilt up, but are soon reunited and head for a leaving ship that is to join Azonia's ship. They escape in a battle pod and after been grilled by the brass, recieve promotions.
Ben is as overjoyed as everyone else when the SDF-1 finally returns to Earth. Too soon however the Zentraedi beginning attacking the SDF-1, and everyone is put back in action. Ben fights well in both Khryon's and Miriya's raids against the SDF-1, his luck though runs out when the new omnidirectional barrier system explodes.
