Emil Lang

Emil Lang is the brilliant Robotech Scienctist aboard the SDF-1, and as his job would dictate he works mostly on uncovering the secrets of Robotechnology. This is hardly a surprise as a large chunk of his intelligence is reported to be an effect of direct contact with a Robotech device charged by Protoculture.
Whether this is true or not is not known, but what IS known is there is definitely something strange about Lang, who is not only elusive and keeps to himself, but strange in a physical sense. His eyes are all black, there isn't even an iris, this is believed to be the proof of a strange incounter with Robotechnology.
We first meet Lang when it is revealed that the Spacefolde generators have disappeared, and is Lang who informs Captain Gloval that in order to fire the main gun a transformation will need to be made.
Despite the devesation the newly built City of Macross suffers the transformation is basically a success, with the enemy been distroyed.
Soon after this Lang notices a strange essence left behind in the space where the Spacefold generators once were. The essence is something physical and seems to have the capibilties of very strong armor. Lang and his Scientist then create a pin-point barrier system out of the essence, which is a system of three discs that can be moved around the ship and repel any incoming lasers. It isn't long after it is created that it is put into use, unfortunately to late the scienctist discover the engery of the disc interfer with the main guns firing. Fortunately the discs play a pivotal role in the Deadlus Manoveer.
Not long after the pin-point barrier is developed that work begins on making an omnidirection one. Also varitations on Veritechs to make them more powerful begin, the first experiment the Armoured Battlion is a failure, been much to heavy to move properly even though it does have an impressive armenant.
The Omnidirectional Barrier is also not much of a success on it's first use, infact it's a disaster. It becomes overloaded from continuing fire and explodes distroying Toronto.
The next addition Lang and his Scienctists make is a real success, the Super Veritech, a veritech with a FAST pack attached to it. The FAST pack allows it to fly at incrediable speeds, and it also has additonal missles, making it the equivalent of 10 regular fighters.
Lang also looks into Zentraedi genetics and first proves human and Zntreadi are essentially the same beings, which helps in peace negoations and acceptance of Zentreadi defectors aboard the SDF-1.
Despite is first disasterious run, the omnidirectional barrier is a great asset during the last battle against Dolza, allowing the SDF-1 to break through Dolza's command centre and distroying it, winning the battle for the Humans and their Zentraedi allies.
Upon the end of the 1st Robotech War, Lang and his scientist focus on the construction of the SDF-2 that will replace the battered SDF-1 on a diplomatic mission to appeal to the Robotech Masters. More research is also done on the Zentreadi at first it is believe humans and Zentraedi have the same decentants, but eventually this dispproven.
Lang is rarely seen or mentioned, but most of us soon become aware of him working behind the scenes, and it is his efforts that helped the reconstruction of the SDF-1 and the development of Veritech and Destroids, and the recovering of the secrets of Robotechnology.
