Kyle Lynn
Kyle Lynn, or Lynn Kyle is a much disliked character of the Robotech series and for good reason. He's a liar, hypocrite and just plain annoying.
Kyle is Minmei's cousin, who left Macross Island befor the SDF-1 launch day because of a dispute with his father, Minmei's uncle Max. He lived instead with Minmei's parents until the return of the SDF-1. When Minmei visited her parents, they refused to allow her back to the ship without a guardian to watch over her, Kyle decided to be the one. So he returned with Minmei and Rick to the SDF-1 to be reunited with his parents, Lena, who is happy to see him, and Max his father, who's a little more cool about it.
Right from the word 'go' Kyle showed anmosity and contempt for Rick Hunter, not only because he was military, but also because it seemed evident that Minmei cared alot for him.
Kyle for some reason is in love with his cousin Minmei, he is supposedly a distant cousin, which doesn't seem possible. Minmei's parents hardly seem the sort to entrust their daughter to some distant relatives. Cousin Jason is the more likely distant cousin. Distant or not, Minmei definitely doen't enjoy Kyle's advances, whilst Kyle seems to be obsessed with controlling Minmei rather than having a real relationship.
Kyle stirs up some real trouble in the SDF-1 with his peace group, he detests all things military and claims to be a pacifist. This is not true as Kyle is a remarkable hand to hand fighter, better than Max Sterling even.
It's this reason that Kyle is choosen to co-star with Minmei in the movie 'Small White Dragon' this seems to be the beginning of the inflatuation with Minmei as the two share a romantic stage kiss. During the emergency transformation Kyle also rescues Minmei from falling through a crack.
Kyle seems to worship and hate Minmei's singing, because though it makes people happy, Kyle feels it makes people overlook the important things like peace.
The part Kyle played in the last Battle with the Zentraedi Imperial Fleet is hard for him to accept, as he feels he has betrayed his morals. This ends up giving him a drinking problem, and violent mood swings, which make him even more unikable. Especially by Minmei who finds him selfish and rude, especially when Kyle turns the peple of Denver against Rick Hunter, after the near capture of the Protoculture resizing Chamber by Khyron. Because of the Chamber is not secured and next time Khyron does succeed in stealing it.
Kyle and Minmei are the captured by Khyron and his group, and angry Kyle goads Khyron until he his ready to crush them. Khyron chooses to kiss Azonia instead. When Rick rescues them Kyle is furious and ungrateful complaining that Rick almost got them killed. Rick and Minmei's reuion only seem to add fuel to the fire.
By far Kyle's worse behaviour is when he intrudes on Rick and Minmei's date, throwing water in Minmei's face he drags he out of the resturant. Soon after this Minmei quits singing, right in the middle of a concert, Kyle leaves her then, disappearing never to be seen again.
