Don't sue. ***************** It used to be that banging my head on a wall usually cleared it up. Burned up extra calories at that. This time it wasn't working. "Zane, please." Belldandy insisted,"You'll hurt yourself!" "Do me a favor," I said with leaning with head on the door, "Explain this to me one more time. I'm just not getting it." She smiled politely and a bit sadly, "Why don't you just let me take you to where I live, and I think it will become clearer? It will only take a few seconds." "Okay, okay, I guess I've got nothing better to do right now...and I really want to figure this out. Okay...let's go." "Okay...you probably should pack some clothes in case you'd like to stay for awhile. You're quite welcome to, you know." While I rummaged about finding some suitable gear, and packing up my camera and equipment(I'm a part-time semi-pro photographer...or at least that's what I call myself), Bell looked around the room with a rather dissatisfied eye. "Zane, um, I don't mean to sound nosy, but do you ever clean your room?" I turned to look at her, she was just curious & I could tell she wasn't being judgmental. I sighed. "I just don't get around to it much, and I'm always kicking myself to get it done. Sorry it's such a mess right now, but I just finished a killer class and it didn't leave me much time for anything else." She looked thoughtfully around, and seemed to understand the situation for me. "Well, I'm ready to go." "Is there a larger mirror around here? It would be more convenient than trying to get us both through this one." I thought for a second, "Yes, there is on the first floor that's big enough." We walked down to the first floor in silence, I was still thinking. "We'll have to sneak in quick, it's in the guys bathroom." She seemed to blush a bit at that, then agreed. I checked to make sure it was empty...no need to scare the bejesus out of someone by disappearing through a mirror while they're trying to shower, right? "Hey, this isn't going to be...um, like...wierd or something" "Oh, no this will be very simple, like...like walking through a wall of water except that you don't get wet." Hmmm...sounded wierd all right. She turned to me, and took my hand. "You ready?" "No." "We very rarely are." ***Oh! My Demon!*** Chapter 5 ******************** Well, my surroundings certain are nice, I thought to myself. I was enjoying the view of the surrounding city of Nekomi from up on a hill. The house was sitting next to a temple, not the biggest one I'd ever seen, but certainly the best kept. I sipped on a glass of tea, walked down to the street to have a look-see and a smoke, (Bell saw this, and seemed to frown a bit). Oh well, considered all that had happened to me in less than 24 hours, I needed it. I mulled over what Belldandy had told me since I'd arrived the other day. She lived here with a young man who'd made a wish for her to stay with him forever. She didn't go into much detail, and I told her it was probably for the best that she didn't(again with her concerned-frowning-just-barely look). I gave a quick smile and said it was okay, and I just barely turned around when her sisters showed up. I had to wonder how 3 sisters could look so different. Belldandy, who had long brown hair, blue eyes and a gentle face was the picture of what you might call stunningly average. She introduced Urd, all tan and long nearly white hair swirling in a rather suggestive fasion(I didn't know hair could do that), almost my height and very expressive eyes. I won't worry about describing what she was wearing, suffice it to say it was a hot summer. Then her younger sister walked up, and eyeing me rather suspiciously, greeted me rather cooly. She had long black hair in two tails, and wore some kind of overall shorts. She had no more than said hello, than she left saying something about working on something called "Banpei-kun". "So...how long are you here for?" Urd asked as we walked up to the house. "Um, probably for a day or two, maybe...I'm not sure at this point." "Yeah...right." Urd winked at me and laughed. I didn't dare ask her what she'd meant by that. The sudden feeling that I maybe I should turn around and run like hell was almost overpowering. I still wonder what would've happened if I'd listened to that voice. But we simply continued walking up to the house, Bell told us to go on in, and that she'd make us something to drink in a moment(and, of course, apologizing for being a bad host)that she had to go see Keiichi and tell him what was going on. "Keiichi, oh, the guy who..." "Yep," Urd said "the very one." I met Keiichi later, and he seemed like a likable guy, except for his overwhelming love of things mechanical...but even that was okay. I got too much of a sugar rush when he and Belldandy were together, hell I still do. But it's nice to see that sort of love, I suppose. Even considering my job. My job? Yeah, we'll get to that...we shouldn't rush things now, should we? So I finished my smoke and headed back up to the house. I needed to go shopping later, & I wanted to look around and see if there was anything interesting to photograph...there almost always is. But first I had some more questions, possibly important ones. "Zane, you really shouldn't smoke.." Bell said as she entered the room that served as a 'living room' of sorts, two glasses of tea in her hands. "Yeah...I know..Jen will give me heck about it too." "Maybe we could help you quit?" "Nah, if I'm gonna quit, it's got to be under my own power." I began, "I have a question for you, it's funny that it slipped my mind until now..."The phone began to ring, interrupting me. "Oh sorry, I need to get that!" I was dozing in and out, feeling very sleepy all of the sudden, and I picked up bits and pieces of her side of the conversation. Not that I was eavesdropping, but I definitely perked up when I heard her say "Oh! Hello Father!" The Almighty was calling? I suddenly got that dreadful feeling that this somehow concerned me. How right I was. **Oh! My Demon!*** chapter 6 ****************** I was beginning to get up and go find out from Bell just what was going on, when she came back in the room. "Now, what were you wanting to ask me?" She inquired politely. "Ah, nothing important...it looks like you have something to tell me though." I was making a blind shot by asking that, but I hoped I'd get some sort of hit. "Oh, yes! About your friend, Jennifer. Well, I wanted to wait to tell you this after you'd settled in a bit and got used to everything, you see." "Okay, so what news do you have? She's staying here I take it?" "Yes, in a way...remember how I explained to you the wish granting part of my duties as a goddess? Well for a long time now I haven't been able to do that because of my...I mean Keiichi's wish." Hmm, interesting slip there...I decided not to push that way though, "So then who's been doing that job?" "Well, Urd handles most of them, but there are several other 'offices' in Heaven that handle them. Skuld is still learning to use her powers, and the Almighty feels that she's not ready for that just yet." "That's understandable." "Oh! You probably just think I'm a KID! Peeeedah!" yelled Skuld as she slammed the door leading outside. "Sorry about that, she's still very young and gets a little upset when she feels someone is picking on her because of her age." "Ah, it's alright."I said "I guess I can understand her feeling that way. So, it's Urd's job now, the wish-thing I mean." "Yes, and not too long ago she recieved a call from a young woman, who was in desperation from working jobs that didn't use her skills and not finding anything to do in the work she loved." "Let me take a wild guess here, that would be Jen." "Yes, it was. So Urd left to meet her & it turned out she was quite qualified to receive a wish. It turned out rather oddly though." "Huh, why is that? What happened?" I was already pretty sure of the answer, or at least I thought I was. "Well, when she made her wish...she said it was on a whim, but...in this line of work a whim is usually anything but." "Okay, so what did she wish for?" "Well, I will let her tell you, she should be here soon. But I can tell you the result of her wish, if you'd like."
