Border backgrounds are very handy to use. If you have a rather sterile page of information and few graphics, the border can liven things up.

If you are using a solid border -- it is a convenient place to put your navigational menu for your web site by using words or graphics as links to other pages as I have done here. To view the same border on the left side of the page, click on "View Left Border" in the blue column.
