Solidarity with Indonesian People

Dear comrades,

Militant greetings of solidarity amidst trying times!

Undeniably, the Southeast Asian region is in turmoil. The financial crisis that has swept the region since the middle of last year is already taking its toll to the basically weak economy of the Southeast Asian countries.

For the past few weeks, the region has witnessed the political upheaval in your country. Almost everyday, Indonesian people and students take to the streets to protest the rising prices of commodities and the intensified sufferings of the people. But with every cry of protest, the Suharto government answers with their usual weapon - state fascism.

Still, you persist with your struggle. And we greatly admire you for that.

We, the League of Filipino Students (LFS), stand in solidarity with your people in your quest for basic changes in the Indonesian society.

Thus, on May 20 1998, the LFS, together with other youth organizations in the Philippines, will hold a solidarity protest action in front of the Indonesian Embassy here in our country. The protest action will not only be a condemnation of Suharto's latest acts of fascism against the student demonstrators but is also an act of support for your struggle.

With this, we will highly appreciate it if you can send us a message from your organization to be incoporated in our program. You can send your message to this e-mail address or to
lfsphils@hotmail.com.

We hope that you can grant our request and more power to the Indonesian struggle.

In solidarity,

(Sgd.) APOLINARIO ALVAREZ
LFS National Chairperson
