Joseph, the "DREAMER"

Press Release
August 10, 1999

THE DICTATOR Marcos once dreamt of Bagong Lipunan (New Society), wherein he would be president until he decided otherwise and all the Philippines wealth will be his. Now a few scores after Marcos, here comes another dreamer, Joseph Ejercito Estrada.

The recent undertaking of the Estrada government to amend the constitution is being done to suit Eraps' fantasy of the Philippines. He wants to transform the country into one big Disneyland for American forces, wherein they can treat our women and children like barbie dolls and commit crimes without being scathed by our justice system.

Our national patrimony shall be sold to the highest foreign bidder, giving them all the freedom to plunder our natural resources, without the administration even blinking an eye. Just like Marcos, he along with his cronies wants to have perpetual rule over our society. The proposal to allow foreign ownership of media, land and utilities will open the doors to Multi-National Corporations (MNC's) fully owning our country. It will lead to greater liberalization of the economy, paving the way for the claws of imperialism to deepen its grip. This is a clear sell-out of ournational patrimony, treason in its highest form.

The attack on the critical press and other civil liberties serves as ground preparation in the case the Concorde faces stiff opposition. It shall also serve the fascist character of the state wherein all opposition must be crushed. This Eden of Erap shall be the greatest nightmare for the Filipino youth. If this daydream of his is allowed to come true, we shall soon wake-up swimming in toxic wastes dumped by the American War Machine. No more lands shall be ours for it will be of foreign hands. Peace shall reign, not because widespread poverty and social inequities are inexistent, but because no one is allowed to express ones' feelings and all civil liberties are not enjoyed by the people.

But the youth shall not be a party to its own demise and destruction. Today we shall intensify our struggle for our own dream of a just, democratic and humane society, wherein our rights our protected by a Charter expressive of the democratic aspirations of the people. On August 20, we shall rage against the nightmare of Charter Change. Erap should remember what happened to dreamers like Marcos. He too shall suffer the same fate in the hands of the people.###
