CURRICULUM GUIDE/WORKSHEET

This curriculum is designed to prepare students as graphic artists for careers with Graphic Design companies and other media firms. Majors are encouraged to develop a wide variety of skills in order to be better prepared for a range of job opportunities. Placement often depends upon the applicant's portfolio of completed work, willingness to move to a different area, and job availability.

General Requirements (for A.A. degree):

I. Natural Science (at least three units)

II. Social Science (at least HIST 125)

III. Humanities
a. Fine Arts (at least 3 units from among: ART 100, 101, 103A, 103B, 103C; HIST 143A, 143B;
IS 100; MUS 100, 102, 120A, 120B; TD 100, 101, 109)
b. Humanities (at least one additional course, 1-4 units)

IV. Communication and Analytical Thinking
a. English composition (at least one course from among: BOT 126; ENGL 101A, 101B, 101C,
151B, 156; JOUR 101A)
b. Communication and Analytical Thinking (at least one course from among: BA 123; CS 102A,
102B, 113, 123; ELEC 141; MATH 101A, 151, 151A & 151B, 153, 156, 159, 163, 166, 167, 181,
188, 196; PHIL 104, 107; SPCH 101, 102, 104, 151)
c. Mathematics (complete MATH 151 or 151A & 151B, unless minimum proficiency score is obtained on assessment test)

TOTAL MINIMUM UNITS AREAS I-IV: 18

V. PHYSICAL EDUCATION a. Complete two activity courses (1/2-1 unit each); OR
b. Complete PE 101A-Fitness for Life (3); OR
c. Present academic record indicating completion of equivalent work.

Note: "C" average (2.0) required:
a. In all courses in major field for Certificate of Achievement.
b. In all supporting courses in major.
c. In all courses for the Associate Degree.
