French Border, 14th Century
Here is the line drawing, and here is the painting.
This is a line border and initial based, in the main, on a manuscript from the court of Charles V of France. The whitework patterns come from a variety of manuscripts. It is a fairly typical bar-and-ivy arrangement. Like most bar-and-ivy borders, it has a very limited palette and consists of very simple shapes.

First, I drew the shape with the pencil and ruler. Once I was satisfied with my drawing, I inked the drawing with the rolling ball pen, and, after the ink dried, erased the pencil drawing. I then painted in the gold areas (they appear brown on the scan), followed by the red and blue areas, with the size 7 round. Once the base colors were dried, I used the 3/0 round and the bleedproof white to do the whitework. It's very simple.
