Rain had no idea what kind of tricks Grey had played using her computer and the internet, but all of a sudden he had got a citizenship, a valid driver's license, a social insurance card, even a medical record saying that he was human and totally healthy -- though all of that had been lost, according to him, due to a theft. For credentials in order to convince his future employers to hire him, he created himself a Doctorate in computer science and another in computer engineering from a well-known university, as well as a couple excellent references from world-famous companies in that field. But still, something was missing.
"Your wardrobe!" Rain declared early next morning. "Which practically does not exist! If you go to a job interview in that ugly grey thing of yours, no one in their right mind would ever hire you, not even with the kind of credentials you've created out of thin air. No, especially not with the kind of credentials you've created for yourself. A successful computer techician who worked in one of those companies you wrote on your references knows how to present himself properly."
"What's wrong with my clothes?" Grey said defensively. "This......'ugly grey thing', as you've termed it, is a state-of-the-art spacesuit, issued only to the intelligence agents in the highest rank. It has built-in sensors and an artificial gravity field. There's an oxygen mask hidden that will provide me with 60 days of air if I happened to land on a planet without a sufficient air supply......"
"Okay, okay!" Rain raised her hands in surrender. "No need to tell me all the wonders hidden in that piece of disgraceful garment. But my point remains. If you want to find a job on Earth, you need to dress appropriately according to Earth standards. That means you need a suit of some sort. Without a suit, the kind of places in which you're applying for a job will just toss you out the back door before you can even see the receptionist. So, today, we must work on giving you a more Earthly appearance."
"Don't you have to work?" Grey frowned.
"It's my day off today." Rain shook her head. "Now, don't try to change the subject. As soon as I finish classes, we're heading off to a department store. But meanwhile, why don't you put this on?"
Rain produced a size L sweater from the bottom of her closet. Grey could see that she didn't have much of a wardrobe to speak of either, but he decided to keep his mouth shut for now.
"It's a free gift I've got from some charity function. Every volunteer gets one of these. But it's too big for me. I've never worn it before. You can probably keep that jumpsuit on, and put the sweater on top." Rain decided she was never going to call that grey thing clothing, let alone a spacesuit.
