Map of Singapore.

My 1'st time in Singapore was January 1989,

I stayed there for employment purpose for 3 years, and consider Singapore to be my 2'nd home on this planet. It is a very nice place to live, although it is a rather small, but very easy to travel from by flight so you can break away anytime time for a short holiday in Malaysia, Indonesia, or Thailand.

Historic brief.

In ancient times there was a Malay city on the location, but it was destroyed by the Javanese in 1370 AC.

In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles purchased the Island from the Sultan of Johor, and founded the trading station Singapore, under the administration of the British East India Company.

In 1942 Singapore was invaded by the Japanese, and was occupied until 1945 by the Japanese.

After the war, the Singapore population gained some political powers and was declared a self governed area by 1959, in 1963 Singapore joined the Federation of Malaya, but left again in 1965, and declared itself for a republic.

In 1996 Singapore was declared a developed country by OECD, a truly remarkable achievement of a fishing village in 30 years.
