When we were classmates .....

Mon 3 January, 1994

It was the first school day in the new year, when I stepped into the classroom, I heard Elaine crying when she entered the room. I asked others about it, then I knew it was because Siu-Lan. her best friend in the class, was leaving the school.

Exam papers were delivered, according to my information, in Chinese Language and Culture, Flower got the highest mark, I got the second, Y K the third. In psychology, Leung Man was the first, Jimmy and Flower the second. In Chinese literature, Long Hair the first, Siu-Lan the second, Mick the third. In GPA, Seven the first, Leung Man the second, Jeho the third.

We changed our seats again. Jeho wanted a certian seat, but Flower and other students said Jeho did so because the seat was next to Long Hair, his "good friend". Jeho was angry and withdrawn the suggestion.

I was caught by Mrs. Choi to take part in the editing of school newspaper.

Siu-Lan left, there were 28 students in class. Flower left me, and I had another neighbour.

Tue 4 January, 1994

Use of English exam results released. Seven was first in class, Leung Man the second, Jimmy and I the third.

During the lessons, Seven frequently turned round and joked with Long Hair. Jeho was not happy with that.

Wed 5 January

I was busy, discussing with Wai-Tak, Ah Bang and Ah Pong about Chinese Kung Fu. In GPA lesson, we talked about cartoons and Kung Fu.

Mon 10 January. The touch 接觸

In my free lesson, the committee members of Current Affairs Club discussed about the question answering competition.

At lunch time, Flower argued with Shing, and take the duster and threw to each other. The war spread to the ground floor (outside the changing room). I tried to keep the order of the class and tried to stop the war, but I was hit on the head with the duster by Mick.

Then, Seven also wanted to stop the war. In the classroom, it was very messy. Seven suddenly grabbed Flower's shoulders. The class screamed. He claimed that he was just trying to calm her down since Flower was attacking him.

Tue 18 January

At lunch time, I took part in the meeting of inter-school drama competition, since Long Hair invited me to go there.

According to my information, in the first semester, Jimmy got the highest total mark in exam, Jeho got the second, and I ... about 6th or 7th, what a great drop for me (I'm the "traditional strong team" in class, ha ha).

Mon 24 January. Sports day

I was invited to write a few lyrics for the Walkathon. Today, I was instructed to have a meeting with others to discuss about the promotion function of Walkathon. Ah Kin (representative of Folk Song Club) appeared in the meeting. Mr. Shin, one of the teachers in charge of the Walkathon, said a meeting tomorrow was inevitable.

Thu 27 January

L. Chan, our English teacher, talked about the event of driving students out of school. She said it wasn't her fault. While she was talking, she was nearly to cry. At last, she asked us to voice our views to the school, whether we want she to stay in school or leave. After the lesson, several classmates discussed about it, and have no conclusion.

Fri 28 January. The political takeover

The day finally came. The supervisor of our school changed. The school announced it in the morning assembly. Lunch time, many journalists waited outside the school, trying to get some teachers or students to have an interview.

On the other hand, although the school is undergoing a great change in the authority level, the promotion of the school walkathon have to be continued. Mr. Shin appointed me as the director of the promotion show on 31st January.

In the show, singers will present 3 promotion songs which I wrote the lyrics. I'm also responsible to write the words spoken by the MC of the show.

Mon 31 January. The show 一齣戲

As the director of the show, I arrived school very early. Then, I was busy setting up equipments, and telling others what to do.

The show began at a quarter past seven, 3 songs were presented by "singers". The result was not good, since the audio system of our school is poor in broadcasting music. Many people said they can't hear what the singers were singing.

Mon 7 Feburary

I was late to school, when I know I was surely late, I went to Causeway Bay and had a relaxed breakfast. I did several pieces of newspaper cutting exercise and walked around Victoria Park until ten o'clock, and went to school. Karen begged me to write the composition for her, I finnally agreed, but Mick sang beside me, claimed it would make me write faster.

Wed 16 February

In the morning, I went to school, helped the rehearsal of the drama (for the inter-school drama competition). Of course, I was not an actor, but was responsible for background music instead.

At 11, I left the school with Jeho and Flower, then I went to Jeho's home, and had lunch there. His home was full of cardboard boxes and other objects.

At 2 p.m., I went to karaoke with Old Horse, Ah Wo, YK and Ng Kong.

At night, we gethered with Mick, Karen, Flower and Joey, then went to Tsim Sha Tsui to join a ball.

Thu 24 February. Single male, single female 孤男寡女

At lunch time, the whole class cooperated. We leave the classroom (even Winnie joined us), and left Ng Kong alone with Flower inside. Somebody shouted "Come and see! A man and a woman in a room!". Ng Kong's face turned red, but they did not make any anger nor did they try to go out. After the game, Flower said, "If I was with Shing alone in the room, that's fantastic".

Sat 26 February. Walkathon 步行籌款

Today is the annual walkathon day of our school. The route is: Starting from our school, then walk down Braemar Hill Road, and then turn right to walk up to Quarry Bay country park, finally arrived our school to finish.

But the committee members of Current Affairs Club 時事學會includes me don't need to walk, because we need to work in our booth at school. Many people came and played our game, which mainly requires the players to answer current affairs questions. As there were too many people, the questions were not enough, we immediately made more questions. Good players got coupons, which they can use them to exchange for gifts. Our booth won the prize of booth design, and the idea of the booth was provided by the secretary, which was me.

Mon 28 February. the "suicide" 自殺鬧劇

The last 2 lessons were economics, suddenly Old Horse (wasn't taking economics) came to the classroom, seemed to be very worry, asked Long Hair and Karen to go outside. The teacher, Ida, asked why, and Old Horse said a classmate needed some help. Ida let them go without further questioning.

After school, the Flower was accompanied by Karen, Old Horse, Joey, Elaine and others, and the atmosphere was tense. Flower did not speak, but seemed disturbed.

I saw so many classmates "guarded" her home, and thought I did not have to go with them, so, I took the minibus with Long Hair to go down hill. During the journey, I knew what happened. Flower's emotion was unstable during the last 2 lessons while she was in the washroom, and wanted to commit suicide. So Old Horse came to the classroom and got somebody to help her.

Then Long Hair and I went to "Chin-Wai前衛", a karaoke. YK and Pauline were already there since lunch time. Then, Long Hair's pager beeped and she said Flower was "in danger" again, long Hair and Yk rushed to Flower's home.

They came back within a short time. and said Flower was only joking Karen, came with them. We sang until 7:30 p.m..

Fri 4 March

For yesterday and today's after school, it was the preliminary competition of the singing contest of our school. I took part in the competition with a Alan Tam song ("Red dust years 紅塵歲月"), had a duo with Pauline ("Crazy love 痴情", Cheung Wai-Kin and Lai Gi were the original singers), and other cooperation with Ah Wo and Wai-Tak ("Sea-wide- sky-empty 海闊天空", Beyond).

Mon 7 March

After lunch time, Jimmy, Jeho and I went out of the classroom. It was GPA lesson, but we claimed to be preparing for the drama, and of course Mr. Farmer let us go.

We talked in the covered playground, and they talked about Long Hair, and Seven. We know very early that Seven liked Long Hair, and Seven told me and Leung Man about it.

Tue 8 March. Drama

Today is the day for our drama (inter-school competition), the venue is our school hall. I was responsible for the background music. I chosed some music by Beethovin, Bach etc.. Mr. Maxwell, the teacher in charge, said it was good. At lunch time, the students who worked for the drama had lunch in "Tim-Yuen".

Wed 9 March. Singing contest

Seven's emotion wasn't stable, for the matter with Long Hair.

After school, it was the singing contest (final). it was organized by Folk Song Club, Long Hair was the chairperson. Unfortunately, no one helped for the contest, so I went to help Long Hair.

Some trouble makers like Ah Kin and Ah Pong wanted Seven to be the M.C. with Long Hair. The result was not expectable if they were the M.C., I saw the danger of the consequence, took the role of M.C. myself after a discussion with the teacher in charge, Ida.

The contest was held peacefully, but when all the competitors had sung, the audience wanted the M.C. to sing. We invited Mr. Eric Tsui, our class teacher, to sing.

Flower won the contest by "Don't ask who I am 別問我是誰" (Linda Wong). She has a good voice in fact.

Sat 26 March

In these days, I did a lot of work to prevent any unhappy events which were happening between Seven and Long Hair. I spoke to them, and luckily the two people were accepting my opinions.

Seven said he knew his dream was over.

Today was the trip to the Chinese University of HK. Long Hair, Seven, Dennis, Ah Pong, Wai-Tak and I joined the trip.

Thu 31 March

After school, authority figures of our school invited F.6 students to the school hall and voice our opinions to the school. Dennis had a long speech, which was complaining the school of accepting band 4 students to our school, and so the character of our school was deteriorated. The girls were angry about Dennis because he seemed to be talking about the girls. After the meeting in the hall, The girls voiced their angry to Dennis, while Ah Nok, Leung Man and I walked down hill.

Mick and Karen left the school.

Today is the last school day for F.5 students. As Jimmy is a figure which many people hate, he was attacked by some F.5 students by pouring soft drink (沙示)onto his head.

Mon 25 April

Our class was in room 502 originally, but we moved to room 201 on this day. Some students included me helped to move our properties to the new room, which included dictionaries, books, shoes, "water-melon balls 西瓜波" etc.. The staff room is also located on the second floor, but it is unlikely that we would become less naughty.

The result of the second term exam: Ah Bang got the highest total mark (407), Ah Bong the second (403), I got the third (401), Seven the fourth (400).

Thu 5 May. The theft.

At lunch time, in the chemistry laboratory, it was the inter-class English Quiz. Seven, Jeho and Jimmy were the representatives of our class. We got the second. F.6 Hope got the first and 6 Faith the third.

When we came back to our classroom, Long Hair and Y K reported that they lost some money. They put their wallets in their washroom, but they discovered some money and credit cards were lost after they came and collect the wallets. Eric Tsui and Old Chung searched our class, no discoveries.

Sat 7 May. The visit.

We went to have a visit to the mid-way home for the patients who recovered from mental illnesses. We talked to them and found they were friendly. A resident there named Andy talked with Flower happily.

Additional information by L: Flower was wearing a pink dress on that day, and it was quite strange.

Flower and To Lo sang Chinese opera in the mid-way home.

Tue 10 May

At lunch time, the current affairs quiz was held in room 202. The committee members of the Current Affairs Club made the questions together. In fact, it was the preliminary stage of the quiz, and there were many games to be played. We made different kinds of questions. Dennis made a lot of questions about classical music, Seven made many about politics, I made some about Kung Fu novels, Leung Man made some about football etc..

The inter-class basketball competition was held after school. Jimmy, Hay-Man, Ah Bang, Joey and Ah Bong were our representatives, Wai-Tak was the substitute. We won that game.

Fri 13 May. The Scrabble competition

I was busy at lunch time. On the one hand, it was the current affairs quiz, on the other hand, I, together with Dennis and Leung Man, were representing our class in the inter-class Scrabble competition. As we three were core workers of our current affairs quiz, and Seven was also not available at lunch time, we invited Flower to help in our quiz, together with our mighty Ah Bang . After I helped to set up the quiz, I went to join Leung Man and Dennis in the Scrabble competition. We three were very good in playing Scrabble, and we won the competition easily by more than 100 points. Then, I went to have a look of the current affairs quiz, and found it was all right. Ah Bong and Wai-Tak came to help also.

There was another quiz after school, I invited another guest, Long Hair, to ask the questions.

Mon 16 May. The water bottle

In the psychology lesson in the afternoon, The teacher To Lo asked Pauline to give her electronic dictionary to him, he said he suspected she was playing games with it. Then he also asked Flower to give him her water bottle when she came back to classroom. After school, To Lo talked with Pauline and Flower separately outside the staff room. Seven and I arrived, and saw Flower very angry, throwing her own belongings, and Seven quickly went forward and gave her some counseling. At the same time, I asked Pauline what happened, she said To Lo was in the staff room and taking the dictionary back to her, and she did not know why Flower was so angry. Then Seven and I went to the covered playground and met the other girls, and found they were experiencing emotional fluctuation too, since they heard that Flower would got a bad mark for the incident. After a while, To Lo appeared, some girls went forward to protest. I said to To Lo "It was just a minor incident, need not to be so serious." Of course I was quite polite, and I was just pointing out the fact. To Lo said to me, "That's all right, she had apologized, so I don't mind that."

The girls were still very angry, and went downhill by taxi. Seven rushed to close the door for them, and then walked downhill with Ah Nok, Leung Man and I.

Fri 20 May

It was the deadline for submitting pieces of the lyrics competition organized by Folk Song Club (with only 2 persons doing all the jobs, including me). The response was quite disappointing, some were poorly written that could not be sung.

Fri 27 May

Seven was always our talking point. Leung Man, Ah Bang and I talked about his strategies of chasing after girls. We all agreed that he was strange, especially he frequently wore T-shirts of China South Sea Hotel 中國南海飯店 underneath his shirt, which the name of the hotel was clearly seen at his back.

Thu 23 June

After the exam, there was a variety show. I went to school to attend the meeting of the show, but discovered that only Old Horse and a representative of Karate Club were present. Then I joined Seven, Dennis and Ah Bang in Causeway Bay to go to Ah Bang's father's office to have a meeting about our drama in variety show called "校門陣", an imitation of "龍門陣" on TV.

Sat 25 June

Two days before the variety show, Jeho, the original organizer of the event, suddenly quited the job. I took his job and started to prepare for the show with Old Horse. Current Affairs Club executive members practised the show, then I practised for the role of M.C. for the variety show with Old Horse.

Sun 26 June

Seven, Dennis, Leung Man and I prepared the conversations of our drama in variety show. I still keep the original copy of it. As there was a serious shortage of labour in the variety show ( only 2 workers i.e. Old Horse and I), as we were going to be M.C.s also, no one was available to upport us, so I appointed Leung Man to be the audio operator behind the screne. I rushed to prepare the music for tomorrow's show.

Mon 27 June, Variety show(s)

There were actually 2 shows, one for students in F.1 to F.3, and one for students in F.4 and F.5. We were the M.C.s of the shows, and made instructions of the run-down of the shows. There were karate performance, and someone sang songs. I participated in the drama of Current Affairs Club (校門陣), but the response of the audience was poor. After the shows Old Horse and I were responsible to clear the rubbish on the stage before leaving the school.

Fri 5 August

Although I knew nothing about computers at that time, I was called upon to take part in the stall of our school in the Joint School Computers Exhibition in the Science Museum.
