Day 10: 19 June, 1997

Xi'an railway station 西安火車站 (6:30 a.m.)

STU 師大 (7 a.m.)

Drum Tower 鼓樓 (9:30 a.m.)

STU 師大 (11 a.m.)

Xi'an Xian Yang Airport 西安咸陽國際機場 (1:30 p.m.)

Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport 香港啟德機場 (4:45 p.m.)

We were forced to get up again. People came across to check our tickets, changed the tea pots, cleaned the compartment and collected the rubbish left by the passengers. The compartment was clean and tidy.

6:30 a.m. Xi'an railway station 西安火車站

We left the station, I felt like returning home, and felt the difference between Xi'an and Yanan. Xi'an was more prosperous and busy than Yanan, the feeling was like returning to a city from a farming village. We were on our familiar coach again, which gave a home-like atmosphere after travelling without it for two days.

7 a.m.STU 師大

When we returned to STU, we packed our belongings so that we could bring them back to Hong Kong. I experienced a little trouble packing my souvenirs, especially my little terracotta warriors. I wrapped them with paper and put them in a big paper bag (given by 505 Group Company), which I carried it on the plane to Hong Kong.

Joe, Helen, Frennie nad I had a walk around the campus to take photos. It was such a beautiful campus, looked like a university more than HKU. We liked the trees very much, since there were not many tall and nice trees in Hong Kong. We took photos in front of the library and some residential hostels. We met an STU student Huang Yu who talked with me when we had the party 聯歡 with STU students. She rememberd my name but I didn't remember her name at that time.

9:30 a.m. Drum Tower 鼓樓

The Drum Tower was near the Bell Tower we visited. It was in the centre of Xi'an city. We found some stores crafting personal seals 圖章 for tourists. Frennie and I had our names crafted in seals. The stores was in the street we visited before going to Bell Tower on Day 6. We also bought some other souvenirs. Then we had our lunch in a noodles restaurant. We had "top-grade" beef noodles ($3.5) and meat buns ($0.4). They tasted good, but we were in a rush since it was near the time of gathering.

11 a.m. STU 師大

We got a taxi to go back to STU, and we were late. The taxi stopped at the wrong place, and we had to have a long walk to go back to our hostel. Others were waiting for us.

Finally, we left the school on our coach. The STU officials we met including Mr. Tung came to say goodbye to us, and we waved back to them. I was sure I would miss the school and the city. Maybe I'll be back to trace back the memory someday in my life.

1:30 p.m. Xi'an Xian Yang Airport 西安咸陽國際機場

The journey to the airport was long, and almost all of us slept in the coach. The airport building was nice-looking. It was not congested, and we boarded the plane without trouble. Before we went to the plane, we had a photo in front of the plane.

I had one spare exposure left of the roll of film, so I took a photo of the cloud outside the plane when we were on the top of the clouds. When we were in the sky above Hong Kong, We were in a cloud and I saw the new Chek Lap Kok airport under the plane. We flew above the buildings in Kowloon City and landed.

4:45 p.m. Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport 香港啟德機場

After 10 days of departure from our ordinary lives, we returned to the super city we lived in. We spent some time phoning our parents, passing through the customs and collecting our suitcases. After leaving the airport building, we separated. Fat Boy, Kelvin and I got a taxi to Tsuen Wan together. The taxi driver told us that during the ten days of our trip, Hong Kong was always raining heavily. We were happy to escape from these rainy days, and enjoyed ten sunny and lovely days in Xi'an and Yanan.

THE END

That was what happened in our interflow trip, and thank you very much for reading these pages. All opinions are welcomed.

These pages were made several months after the trip, it was because I was busy and couldn't afford the time to write them. I visited many historical spots during the trip and enjoyed them very much, but the main aim of an interflow trip is to communicate with the students and the people of the place. That is a precious experience, and there is not many chance to do so except in the university.

A problem I faced in the process of writing is that my skill in typing Chinese was (and is) not good, so I had to write in English. There are certainly errors or gramatical mistakes, please forgive me.

If you are interested, click to the homepage of Shaanxi Teachers University 陜西師範大學 and Xi'an Jiaotong University 西安交通大學 to have a look.

Time to say goodbye then, remember to come back to my homepage and see if there is anything new!
