Well, now that spring has passed and the water has warmed up a bit, I've been in the water almost every week since the third week of May (excluding the week I went to see my girlfriend, and the 3 weeks I was sick with some odd thing). I don't have any new pictures to put up at this time, just some general comments about places I've been diving.
Proably my most favorite place to dive in Wisconsin would have to be Lake Wazee in Black River Falls, WI. Lake Wazee is the deepest lake in Wisconsin at over 300 feet, but not the deepest natural lake, that title goes to Green Lake at 237 feet. Lake Wazee is/was a open pit mine. Since the mine closed it has filled with water and is an excelent place for the beginer to advanced diver. The water is usualy quite clear, but on the cold side, usualy around 65F in the summer.
Lately I've been diving Devils Lake in south centeral Wisconsin. Devils Lake is about 45 minutes north of Madison and is neighboring to Baraboo Wisconsin, home of the famous Circus World Museum, and also a short distance from the very popular Wisconsin Dells. So back to Devils Lake. I've only started diving there in the past few weeks, but absolutly love it. The water is warm, around 75 on the surface and about 65 below the thermalcline. Visibility isn't the best 5 to 10 feet possibly 15. I've been diving the North Shore near the rail road tracks and that seems to be a popular spot with other divers as well. The fish in this lake seem very interested in divers. They will swim up to you and follow you.
So, anyway, as you can see, I've only been diving in a few spots, but every time I go, I see something different. If you happen to be in the Black River Falls area or the Baraboo/Wisconsin Dells area, check out these places. Both lakes offer camping and other land based activites for non divers. Devils Lake is a state park and there is a fee to get into the park. Lake Wazee is more of a "recreation area", but there is still a fee for divers and non divers. Either way, it's worth the price.
Hopefuly more later! Remember, take only pictures...leave only bubbles.
