The Candy Candy comic was written and drawn by Kyoko Mizuki and Yumiko Igarashi in 1974. The series continued weekly until 1982 in the magazine Nakayoshi from the Editorial Kodansha.
The comic is part of the Shojo Manga genre, that is to say, comics for women (girls, young women, and adults). Where the romantic scenes are important, the painful love and the dramatism is tear-jerking.
In Candy Candy , all of these elements were very explicit, complimented by the striking grafics by Yumiko Igarashi and the explosive script by Kyoko Mizuki .
In the rest of the world, Candy was made famous by the television series.
