26 December, 1998

Last week I went to a sport ground to practice running, in order to prepare for the sports days of our department.

³¢¹t On Christmas Eve, I went to see "®J¤Î¤ý¤l" with some friends. I was amazed that ¤S¤@«° was so crowded, and there was a long queue, people were waiting to skate there.

A few days ago I discovered that someone copied the lyrics written by me and put on their homepage without my permission, that is a violation of copyright. Although I can't get money with my lyrics, their behaviour is unacceptable and I'm finding ways of solving the problem.

12 December

Last Saturday I went to HKU again and took photos with my relatives, and had lunch at 3 p.m.. Feeling very tired indeed.

¼Ú¶§¾W On Monday I continued attending my training course, at lunch time, I went uphill to °Ê´Óª«¤½¶é to see the trees, monkeys, birds, tigers and other animals. On Wednesday I had lunch with a friend in Central.

On Thursday I attended the meeting of District Management Committee, but I didn't need to do the interpretation, it was my colleague's turn to do it. The discussion was long, about land administration, and some foreigners' voice could hardly be listened. The meeting lasted for 2 hours.

6 December

On Monday I continue my training course at Admiralty, really feeling tired listening to the lecturer for hours. Tuesday is the congregation at ¬õÀ], I went there with others after taking ¹L¨à (¥ô½å»ô) photos with them in the morning. I was starving when I was sitting in my seat since I didn't have time for lunch. ¸³§B§B was sitting on stage, repeating the sentence "....authority vested in me, I admit ...... degree of blah blah blah". The speech of vice-chancellor Mr. Cheng was quite acceptable. I was exhausted and very hot wearing gown......

On Wednesday, another training session. At lunch time I went to Wanchai to visit Eastern 188. On Friday, about 6 p.m., I travelled to Mongkok and bought CDs.

Às¨à (§dÅ½¬) Today I went to HKU again and took photos with relatives ..... Luckily we can only lend the gown for a month, otherwise I can't tolerate the troublesome gown......

"¯«óç«L«Q" TV series finally ends, I really miss it, although the ending was somewhat strange. After a hard search, I found the photos of the characters in the TV series, so I put them in this page.

30 November

On Saturday, I was back to HKU to take photos with some classmates. The weather was so bad that I'm afraid our films would be wasted. I'm happy to meet some classmates and even o'camp groupmates accidentally, and took photos together. The Main Building was very crowded, so did "Happy Park". I stayed till night and hoped the photos would be beautiful.

25 November

Last Saturday I went to City U to take graduation photos with some secondary school classmates. We didn't stay for long.

Today I started to attend the training courses offered by Official languages Agency in Admiralty, and have to soend more time on travelling. But I have more time to have lunch.

I'm increasingly angry with the two newspapers. Although they are resourceful and offer more content to read, they are unethical and just make their stories, putting fiction as the headlines, or just mentioning "news" with no importance to our lives.

16 November

Went back to HKU and took the academic dress. I met Ah Chun ªü¬K(Joe knows who he is). Went to co-opt and bought a tie.

Last Friday, before the soccer match, I went to HKU to have supper, and discovered Lee Hall canteen was changed, better inside. The decoration is better, the chairs were changed to ones with cushions, also, two VIP rooms were made, and a corner for ¶¼¯ù.

6 November

Lots of events this week. I saw "City of Glass ¬Á¼þ¤§«°" on Tuesday. The film was generally good. Good shots and good atmosphere, but the story can be furhter elaborated, cause I find the story shallow. The film maker wanted to tell the audience something about the contrast between past and present, but the effect is not very good, sometimes it's odd. The minihall life and other current issues only occupied tiny part. They wanted to say many things, but the main theme, love story, stopped them from saying enough. As HKU students, many shots are impossible, like the dog can't ran away from Ho Tung ¦óªF to main building and being hit by a bicycle (and bicycles don't appear there! I haven't seen any bicycle in campus rode by students during my 3 years in HKU). Also, you can't check old newspapers in the computers in main library, you must go to microfilm or other computers.

I went to a dentist in Admiralty to ¸É¤ú. Quite painful. On Thursday night, went to dinner with secondary school classmates in San Diego Hotel and had a good chat. On Friday night, I helped a colleague to move (home), from Fanling to Kowloon Bay. I only went to Fanling to help and didn't follow to Kowloon Bay.

28 October

I'm very angry about the mass media's over-reporting of Mr. Healthy Chan, they just make the society unhealthy and fell into fear! They manipulated him, made stories, judge the rightness by themselves, and in the same time expelled the other viewpoints, seems that only their point is correct and so called "moral". Mass nedia controls our minds. Mr. Chan is like Truman.

The media who criticized Mr. Chan most seriously are the media who put the most effort to promote obscene behaviour! How can they criticize him? Or are they publicizing him? Radiculous.

In order to boycott the media like Apple, Eastern, ATV and TVB, I'll not buy the newspapers for the next 6 months at least, and stop watching (in fact I seldom watch) the TV programmes for at least 3 months. I'll make complains to the related authorities if the matter goes worse.

Yesterday I had a soccer match at 9 p.m., before that, I left my office at 5:15 and just managed to rush to Yau Ma Tei and watched The Truman Show ($30!). I'm thinking of how many seemingly real stories in the media reports are actually manipulated stories, entertaining us.

Bought Hung Tin-Ping's originally $20 EP at $18 in a hidden shop in Kwun Tong.

20 October

Computer is some kind of unlimited knowledge, people chase unlimited knowledge with limited time easily. I'm testing "new technology" in my pages (because Mr. Tung called to develop technology!), and I hope you'll like them. Of course I'll be very careful with computers before they take away too much of my time.

I haven't watch a whole series of TV dramas for a long time, but now I'm watching ¯«óç«L«Q, and of course X-files, and sometimes Ally McBeal. It's a pity that I can't watch ER because of time constraint.

10 October

On Tuesday, it was a public holiday. After having lunch with ex-classmates in HKU, some boys played soccer, see "Forward" for details.

Pirate CD shops still popular despite Customs actions. People happy to buy, even high ranking official in Lands Department buys it, witnessed by one of my colleagues.

22 September

I visited Plaza Hollywood with two secondary school classmates, it's quite a big and nice shopping centre, lots of shops to walk around. Many shops are on sale, consume hard then....

Snoopymania! McDonald earn much by selling their snoopy dolls. Long queues appear at every McDonald, nearly every colleague in my office is collecting and asking others' help to "eat" the hamburgers and french fries. I've got Hawaii and Korea only.

After finishing "Book of Changes ©ö¸g", I'm reading "°¨¦¤l".

16 September

Last Saturday I wondered around Hong Kong Island. First I went to HKU and submitted the application form for transcript, then I visited the computer centre (my favourite Mac room, no need to log-in and I can always find an unoccupied computer), the book shop (I bought a book of Sigmund Freud) and the co-opt (bought some stationery). Then I took a bus and went to Central, the shop of World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong to buy some gifts. After that I went to Quarry Bay, then Causeway Bay. Some shops in Times Square were on sale.

When there is nothing to do in the office, I read the "Book of Changes ©ö¸g"

5 September

Some days before, the headquarters of our department suddenly phoned to our room and told my supervisor that a new colleague was coming to fill a vacant post in our room (CLO). Within 5 minutes the seat, desk and book shelf of the new colleague was being cleared (we put much books and other things in them), by the co-operation of me and my colleague. Maybe I'll be less busy after the new colleague has arrived.

After "working" for 3 hours in the District Office, I went to Mongkok and visited ¥ý¹F, «H©M and some book shops with some friends. Then I walked to visit a shopping center to see the stamps. VCD's of Japanese TV series were still the major attraction of the district. When the Customs take action to stop the trade, Will the shopping centres still so attractive? I could hardly squeeze into the shops! so crowded!

Then at 6 p.m. I had a dinner with my friends in HKU. The dishes were not very good. Nevertheless we had a good time. After that we went to an TV game centre, the girls were very interested in the machine which displayed two photos at a time and the player had to find five differences between them in a limited time period. You better call 3 or more friends to play with you! Sometimes the difference was so tiny to detect.

26 August

After a few busy days, the CLO (Chinese Language Officer) room is quiet. I read two National Geographic magazine these days, and finished the comics "Evangelion". A CD shop is moving and is holding a clearance sale, I picked some cheap, but good CDs, like Tat Ming and David Tao.

14 August

From Monday to Wednesday I was preparing for Tsuen Wan District Management Committee which representatives of various government departments in the district would report their work. My job is to translate the papers of the meeting to Chinese, because the District Board chairman Mr. Chan Lau-Fong doesn't know English. Now, nearly all of the meetings are conducted in Chinese, except District Management Committee because there are foreigners attending. In the meeting on Thursday, I sat beside Mr. Chan to do interpretation, quite a difficult job, sometimes I can't catch up with the words of the speakers.

Today I attend a course on Cangjie Ü¾e in Quarry Bay, quite useful, but I still prefer to use my favourite ª`µ

3 August

Another time to report what I've did. On 25 July I went to the book fair. It was Saturday afternoon and the exhibition hall was very crowded. My usual practice is to walk on every booth of the fair.

I spent about $300 to $400 in the fair. I bought a book noting the events in 1997 (¦~³ø), it was cheaper, and very rich in information about HK. I also bought birthdays cards, a VCD about Kai Tak Airport, some beautiful Macau stamps and Mr. Bean's teddy bear. I spent about 4 hours in the fair.

That night I went to play soccer at Western Park, many SJA old boys were there, including England Chan, Shenzhen Tseng, Jimmy Ma etc..
These few days are very busy, suddenly lots of work to do.

27 July

Firstly I would like to "report" what happened around 14/7/98. I suddenly remembered that Dr. Corlett was going to leave HK and tried to contact her, but she was always not at home. At the night of 13/7 Thomas and I finally contacted her and arranged for a meeting next evening at 10 p.m.. I phoned some of the old classmates and asked them whether they could come or not.

At 10 p.m., 14/7, We gathered at Central MTR. Old Horse, Joey, Jimmy, Dr.Corlett and I "appeared". We then went to Lan Kwai Fong (Parrot Bar) and talked about matters in SJA, Mr. Tsui See-Lap, CP etc.. and knew that these two men were becoming slaves of their women. We also talked about our classmates.

We chatted until about 12:30. Then I took a taxi with Corlett, went to her home at North Point and "tookover" some of her properties, including a set of LD (Les Miserable, for Dennis), packs of biscuits, teabags etc.. She had some cooking oil and soy souce but I didn't take them. When I was back home, it was 3:30 a.m.

22 July

In these few days I've not much work to do, and sometimes I read my National Geographic magazine and some novels, newspapers (while my superviser read ª÷¥Ð¤@). Our workload depends on the workload of others: when they write minutes, letters etc., they may ask us to vet and to arrange Chinese typing (calligraphists will type them). I think I won't go the the book fair, but I certainly will buy books and perhaps comics in the future.

2 July

I wish I could have more time to rest when I report duty this day. I went to the headquarter of the Official Languages Agency and knew that I was going to work at Tsuen Wan District Office ¯þÆW¥Á¬F¨Æ°È³B for at least two years before I pass the probation bar. Tsuen Wan is nearer to my home, if I take to bus I can get there in 35 mintues. The job of Chinese Language Officer is to check the letters or minutes to see if there is anything wrong (grammatically), to do translation, interpretation etc.. Generally I'm not busy, and time passes quite easily.

21 June

In these days I'm a full-time soccer watcher, and watch every world cup match. A few days ago I went hiking with some schoolmates and found myself nearly exhausted. I've done too little exercise so I couldn't cope with the trip very well. The day before that, I went to Kai Tak airport and took some photos of it because its going to be closed very soon. Also I experienced the feeling of having an aeroplane flying right over myself (I was standing near one end of the runway). I watched the planes landing and saw a plane failed to land (trying to land at the runway but failed, and then forced to rise again to wait for the second attempt). Then I went to the top floor of the airport carpark and watched planes flying just above the buildings in Kowloon City before landing.

By the way, this page is going to be renamed, since I won't be a student again.

23 May

I've finished the final exam, and now looking for a job, and the World Cup!

Last week when I had a walk in Lam Tin Estate, a relatively old estate, I saw I man selling insects called "ª÷µ·¿ß"! I thought this kind of hawkers have disappeared in Hong Kong. Some people are still playing with them in this advanced city with many fancy toys. I played with them in secondary school, although I seldom buy them, but to find them up the hill.

16 March

Long time no see! Recently, I'm bust doing projects of Consumer Psychology, lots of questionnaires to distribute and collect, and I'm afraid my regular questionnaire-fillers are annoyed.

Feeling the pressure of job-seeking, I'm afriad of unemployment since the economic situation of HK isn't good. I've some recruitment tests for government posts, and had 1 interview.

Entering the last month of University life (not including the exam), I spaek more in tutorials, and the tutors, as usual, seemed to be calling me to speak regularly.

14 January

I was very busy with my thesis, but it is now all over and I've handed it in. However, works do not stop.

This day, we play soccer in Flora Ho "stadium". The ground was bad, and it rained heavily while we were playing. As a result, we played in ponds of mud. When we finished playing we were very dirty.

4 November

I went to Stanley Prison last week, not because I killed someone but because it was an activity of the course of Crime and Deviance. It is a high security prison, and lots of gates and steel doors to pass through before entering to the place where prisoners appear. We visited the workshops (making shoes, uniforms for police, road signs), canteens, kitchens and dometory. The cell where prisoners sleep is very small, only about 60 square feets, and there may be 2 prisoners in a cell.

5 October

The heavy workload of my thesis is chasing me, never let me having a relaxing spare time. Lots of books to read, lots of things to think. I think I should concentrate more when I'm walking in the street, because I find myself kicking into objects when I'm walking around.Yes, I'm putting nearly all of my resources doing my thesis.
In this semester, there are only 10.5 hours of lessons to attend per week. But I'm spending more time in the library.

10 September

I couldn't find any summer job, but I've started giving my private tutorials in order to earn money to start my new school year.

14th July

The exam results have been released, as I predicted, I have no courses to be re-examed. The results are quite satisfactory. Today is the day for course selection of the next year's first semester.

In these days, I'm staying home, and try to read the textbooks which I haven't finished in Year 2.

20th June

On 10th to 19th June, I joined a trip to Xi'an and Yanan. The experience is very precious to me.

We visited many places, such as the tomb of Yeung Kwai-Fei, Tang emperor and Han emperor etc., we also visited many history meseums there, and universities. I may open a new homepage for the trip.

18th May

The exam spans for about a month, and it is a terrible exam. I have 6 subjects to be examed in 11 days (all are psychology subjects), and then 2 others in about 2 weeks.

21st April

There are no classes now, because the exam is coming in early May. For me, the exam starts from 3/5 to 27/5. I go to the campus occasionally to attend meetings with lecturers with other students to get the "tips", better than nothing.

3rd April

In these days, I'm busy preparing my projects and essays, also, our final exam is coming in May. I go to the microfilm room in the main library to search for newspapers of the 70's, and found a lot of interesting news.

26th March (Wednesday)

Many secondary school students were getting around in the campus. In the Social psychology lecture, some of them came and attended the lecture, the lecturer used some of them to do a demonstration of social psychology concepts.

At 5 p.m., there was a talk about world trends. Wong Yuk-Man, the editor of "Mad dog daily", and Wong Wang-Fat were two of the men who gave the talk.

I am quite busy in these days. There are 4 pieces of homeworks to do and they're due in 2 weeks time, also, there are tests and the terrible final exam. As the exam is near, I've to read the textbooks as fast as possible, including the books of the last semester.

14th March (Friday)

At lunch time, Emil Chau Wah-Kin, the pop singer, went to our campus to have a talk. He talked about his experience in making friends, and also talked about his career. He was really a good performer on the stage and made good jokes. At last, he presented 3 songs and played the guitar. It was enjoyable.

26th February (Monday)

I went to Tuen Mun to do a survey about what is people's opinion towards new immigrants from China. The survey was conducted by the Hong Kong Psychological Society. I asked the passers-by to answer questionaires, but, as it was expected, only some of them agreed to cooperate. It may because the questionaire took 15 minutes to finish, and I was instructed to tell the subjects about this before asking questions. I took 6 hours to finish 16 questionaires.

12th February (Wednesday)

Quite a busy day for me. In the morning, I went to the stamps exhibition in Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre. I take 2 hours to queue before entering the exhibition hall (5/F), but if I wants to go to the seventh floor, I must join another long queue before doing so. People are just queueing for new stamps but not watching exhibited stamps. I left the hall at about half past twelve. I went to the campus then, to have a tutorial lesson.

At six, I walked to Sasson Road to have the lecture of general education, "Psychology of love in contemproary context", the lecturer is great and created lots of fun.

1st February (Saturday)

Today is the firm visit organized by the Psychology Society of HKU, the venue is Castle Peak Hospital, which is for mental illness patients.

We arrived there at 10 a.m., firstly, a clinical psychologist introduced the trip around the hospital. Then, we went to the first stop, the patients' resource centre, which provides entertainment and there is a tuck shop managed by the patients. After that, we went to the occupation treatment centre, which let patients practice occupation skills e.g. hand tools and computer. Then, we went to one of the wards. In each stop, nurses explained the function of the place.

Finally, we asked questions about the clinical psychologists' role in treating the patients, and the prospect of the career. We left at 1:30 p.m.

25th January (Friday)

What a cold day in Hong Kong, the temperature was only about 10 degrees Celcius in the morning. Rarely, I go to the campus at 9 a.m., waited for my teamates, and went to the kindergarten beside the campus.

We went there to do an assignment, which required us to observe a child for an hour. Of course, we have contacted the kindergarten in advance. We stood at a corner of the classroom and watched children playing. Quite a funny activity to do. The children were very pretty. But it was not easy to jot down everything the child was doing and saying.

21st January, 1997 (Monday)

I thought Monday is my day-off, but in fact it isn't, because I've got a tutorial session today. I didn't want to arrange the tutorial for Monday, but there were only 3 time slots for me to choose which were all on Monday. I was very disappointed indeed, but what can I do?

The tutorial is at 4 p.m.. I came to the campus earlier in order to discuss with some classmates about the developmental psychology assignment.

HKU friendly soccer match result: History Society 8-3 Geography Society

I was invited to be the goalkeeper of History Society in the first half, in which our side got two goals but also lost two. The goals we lost were due to misunderstanding between us (one goal was an own goal). At the second half, we took control of the game and scored more goals, I acted as a defender at the second half.
