The Watchmen

The second opportunity I had to see the Watchmen perform live was during the summer of 1996. I usually went back to my home town to work during the summer, however I was taking an Intersession class so I stayed in the city a little longer. The Watchmen had just released their third album "Brand New Day" and were on a tour to promote this new addition to their work. These tickets were being sold by the CBO so their price was a little more expensive than I was used to paying, however I still managed to round up enough coin to buy one.

Most of my friends were already back home but they were willing to make a trip up to the city to check out The Watchmen again. When the night of the concert arrived, we made our way to the concert building and waited for the festivities to commence. Since this concert was being held during the summer the turnout was a little disappointing. The majority of Watchmen fans are made up of University students and many of them were gone for the summer.

Weeping Tile, a band from Ontario opened for The Watchmen and I must say that I was quite impressed with their music (be sure to check out my review of their performance). The Watchmen soon took the stage and began their set. The mosh pit was quite lame to say the least. There were lots of people in it, but it was very thin. If you tried to surf and started at the back, you would make it to the front in a couple of seconds where you were then pulled down by security guards.

Despite the boring pit, The Wathmen played an exellent show once again. They covered a large variety of songs from all three of their albums which proved to be a crowd pleasing decision for many people had not yet had the chance to buy their new album. The building was very hot and humid which caused a large amount of light-headed, sweaty bodies. Security tried to remedy this by spraying freezing cold water froma hose at times. I must tell you that this felt very refreshing!

The crowd could not seem to get enough of The Watchmen's who played two encors which included a very cool rendition of "Mister".

Overall the show was great, but I don't think that it could compare to their performance on October 31, 1995 (Be sure to check out this review as well).
