A recent bomb threat posted on an internet message board proved to be idle when traced back to the computer from which it originated, an FBI official said.
Just more than two weeks ago, law enforcement officials were notified of a threatening message posted to a Mt. Juliet High alumni message board declaring that a device was placed in the school set to detonate the week students returned to school from the holiday break. Mt. Juliet and county officers searched the school and the FBI joined the investigation to trace the message.
A current student's name was signed to the message, but that student did not send it, Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe said.
"It turned out that the message was sent by a former student of Mt. Juliet High School from another person's computer in a different county. That person signed the name a student and the high school, apparently in retaliation for something that happened in the seventh grade. No formal charges have been determined yet, but all of those involved were interviewed extensively by the FBI. We take such threats seriously.
Unfortunately, one kid's name was dragged into this that was completely innocent. The Mt. Juliet Police Department did a good job of getting it resolved, and the point is that it is resolved. There was never any threat to the school but it had to be taken very seriously until that could be determined," Ashe said.
