Chamber of Music

Music is a beautiful international language even in its basic form. Can you imagine living in a world without music? My love for music goes as far back as I remember. As a child, my exposure to music was through my mother's singing, accompanied by my sister on the piano. I would silently sit at a corner, unnoticed listening intently to her suprano voice.

The sounds of music touches our souls in subtle ways. For easy listening, my all-time favorite is Kitaro, which puts me in a reflective and spiritual mood and brings back memories that are associated with the rythm of the music.

During my teens, my interest in singing was mainly confined to Mandarin songs, although I was English educated. The difficulty of learning Chinese diction and pronounciation did not deter my love for singing these songs. On the other hand, I overcame the difficulty by painstakingly learning the lyrics word for word, interpretating them in English.

I was also fortunate enough to have met some popular Taiwanese singers during the seventies, some of whom are long remembered even today. The most popular was Teresa Teng, who died suddenly of asthma at the age of 42.

Instinctly, I went back to singing English songs again because of my educational background and grew to like great female singers like Mariah Carey, Babra Streisand, and Celine Dion. I found singing their songs challenging, as it stretches one's vocals.
My favorite Chinese singer is Jacky Cheung, known for his rich vocals and winning personality.
