A basic introductory course in applied probability and statistics oriented towards engineering students. Both classical and nonparametric methods are presented, with applications and just enough theory to assure understanding of the material. Topics include basic probability theory, random variables and their distributions, statistical inference, estimation and testing of hypothesis, analysis of variance, applications to reliability, life testing, and quality control. Familiarity with personal computers is highly recommended. Prerequisite MAT 228.
