Problem 6 (Greatest Integer Function) The greatest integer [x] of a non negative real number x is defined to be the greatest integer less than or equal to the number. For example, we have [5.5] = 5, [4.2] = 4, [3] = 3, and so on. Show that the quantity

[u + v ] - [u] - [v]

is always 0 or 1.
