The Alpha Omega chapter of Phi Delta Chi had a basketball team in the spring. We won quite a few games and were the #3 seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, we lost in the first round, but it was still one of our most successful basketball seasons. The brothers that played became closer as they practiced regularly, and those brothers that were unable to play were at the games showing team spirit.
In October, we had the annual Hygea Bowl. This is an annual football game played against the brothers of Kappa Psi (KY). It was a hard fought game, but we triumphed over the KYs with a score of 12-0. Our power in the game came from our running and ball control offense. Our defense smothered the KYs and allowed them only one sustained drive that ended soon after they penetrated into FDC territory. We dominated the game as our offense spent most of their time of the opponent's side of the field. Our female brothers showed their support as they donned "cheerleading" outfits and kept team spirit with their cheers and antics. Everyone participated either as a player or a supporter. Our victory was celebrated with a chili supper at Brother Lunsford's and Brother Higgins' house. The game was probably the highlight of the semester for many of our members and we display the trophy proudly.
Later in October, we co-hosted the Pharmacy School Halloween Party with the theme of "Monster Mash." Attendees wore costumes as there were several contests toward the end of the evening. FDC boasted Barbie, Wonder Woman, Count Dracula, "Harley-dude," and many other "scary" ghouls.
This spring, we had a dozen members attend a "Thursday Thunder" in Oklahoma City. This involves the sport of wrestling, for those laymen unfamiliar with the term. The attendees wore FDC - 4 LIFE shirts (designed after the wrestling logo, again for laymen) made specially for the event. These shirts have proved popular outside the realm of the wrestling fans. We all had a blast and it was probably the most talked about event during the semester.
During the past year, we've also hosted a carwash, participated in the Relay-for-Life walk, highway trash pick-up, Regional Conference, winter coat and food drive, antique drug store in Guthrie, OK, had an entry in the homecoming parade, and many other events. All brothers enjoyed participating in these events, and we're looking forward to new ones this coming year.
