To the Worshipful Masters, Wardens, and Brethren of Centre Point
Lodge, No. 87, F. & A.M.
We, the committee appointed to draft suitable resolutions on the
death of our much loved brother, Simeon McCown, who departed this life
March 8th, 1892, beg leave to report as follows:
Simeon McCown was born in Lounds [Lowndes] County, Mississippi, May
23rd, 1828, and was married October, 2nd [1st], 1850, to Miss Margaret
E. Thomas. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, having joined the
same in 1849. In 1852 he moved to Arkansas and settled in Sevier County.

In June 1861, he joined the Davis Blues at Nashville, was elected
First Lieutenant of the company and served through the war as a brave
and valant [sic] Confederate.
He was made a Mason in Centre Point Lodge in 1857 and took the
Royal Arch Degree June 27, 1860.
In every station in life--as husband, father, citizen, christian
and soldier, Brother McCown lived as near right as any man we ever knew,
always endeavoring to do unto others as he would have them do unto him.
WHEREAS, The Grand Warden of Heaven has seen fit to call our
Brother from labor on earth to everlasting refreshments in the Paradise
of God.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That in the death of Brother McCown this
Lodge has lost one of her strongest pillars; Masonry, an earnest
follower; his wife, a fond and devoted husband; his family, a kind and
indulgent father; and the community, a man whose place cannot be easily
filled.
RESOLVED, That we extend to the family of our deceased Brother, our
deepest sympathy in this, their bereavement--feeling that their loss is
his eternal gain.
RESOLVED, That a suitable page on our Record be accorded to his
memory; that these resolutions be spread upon our minutes and that a
copy be sent to the family of the deceased Brother.
RESOLVED, That Centre Point Lodge wear the ususal badge of mourning
for thirty days; and that a copy of these resolutions be sent THE HOWARD
COUNTY PRESS and Nashville News for publication.
    Fraternally submitted, Committee.
