The pledge program of Phi Delta Theta is primarily a learning process. It is a time when a Phikeia is taught what is expected of him, how the chapter operates, and how to work with other toward common goals. During this time, the Phikeia will also learn the true meaning of Brotherhood, both with his pledge brothers and the active members of the chapter.
By developing friendships with his pledge brothers and the active brothers, learning Fraternity and chapter history, learning the various responsibilities of the officers, and discovering the day-to-day routines of chapter operation, the Phikeia will be better prepared to become a worthy fraternity man. The greater respect he develops for character, scholarship, and his brothers, the better individual he will become.
The pledge program is designed to prepare you for active membership. However, recognizing the aspects of the fraternity is only part of the preparation. Before any individual can become actively involved member in any organization, he must know the system well enough to know what the organization can do for him, and what he can do for the organization. In the fraternity, the earlier the individual understands how the chapter and fraternity operates, the sooner he can begin to put his knowledge into practice.
In summary, the pledge program has been developed to give the Phikeia time to adjust to university life and group living as well as to give the active members the opportunity to install in the Phikeias the values they hold most high.
The pledge program here at Ontario Delta is a dynamic and demanding one in terms of both time and energy. However, we also believe in teaching proper time management skills because your academic career should always be your top priority. You will learn and experience a great many things over the course of this program including Fraternity and chapter history, moral principles, personal responsibility and perhaps most important of all, the principles behind the brotherhood.
The key to the entire Pledge program is to keep a positive frame of mind and work together with your pledge brothers. Having accomplished this, you will find that little can stand in your way.
