DEFENSIVE POINTS BY LARRY ROBINSON
In the 1-30-98 issue of the Hockey News, Fox and MSG color commentator John Davidson wrote in his weekly column about New Jersery Devils' Scott Stevens transition from a loose cannon, take chances type defensemen, to a thinking mans defensemen.
The article states that Stevens credits most of his later development to former Devils' assistant coach Larry Robinson.
Here are the points Robinson suggested Stevens adhere to-
When moving up ice, go up the middle, not along the sideboards.
Tie up the stick instead of the man in front of the net.
Never go beyond the opposing team's hash marks if you don't have the puck or a clear pass.
Good points to instill in your players with no direction or plan while on the ice.
