Napoli, 1990-91

NAPOLI, 1990-91

This championship was Maradona's last season in Naples. He began not to play the soccer he had showed in the years before, he was 30 and he was no longer the champion the whole world had seen. In Serie A he scored only 6 goals (all on penalties). Though he scored some important goals this season, he was then banned after a drug test in March 1991. He had to go away from Italy, and the ban kept him away from the fields for two years.
It was a sad finish for such a great champion. Napoli played an anonymous tournament, and did not qualify for the UEFA Cup.

Anyway, Maradona scored two important goals in the Champions' Cup against the Hungarian team Ujpest Dozsa (scoring a magnificent one with a bicycle kick), but that was not enough to lead our team to the final victory as we lost on penalties in Russia against Spartak Moscow in the second round.

Here is the list of Maradona's goals this season:

Italian Championship (6 goals)

Napoli-Pisa 2-1 (pen.)
Napoli-Milan 1-1 (pen.)
Napoli-Torino 2-1 (pen.)
Napoli-Parma 4-2 (2 pen.)
Sampdoria-Napoli 4-1 (pen.)

Champions' Cup (2 goals)

1st round Napoli-Ujpest Dozsa 3-0 (2 goals)

Coppa Italia (2 goals)

Napoli-Cosenza 3-0 (pen.)
Napoli-Sampdoria 1-0
