Hania EOS General Information | Additional info about mountainsports in Crete

Founded in 1930, Hania EOS is one of the oldest branches of the Greek Alpine Club, and one of the most active. The fact that the Club has been honored with the Prize of the Athens Academy, as well as with the Prize of the Greek Ministry of Agriculture, is no coincidence at all.

The Club has organized departments for climbing, hiking, mountain-biking, skiing, childrens' expeditions, speloeology, and photography.

The new rafting/canoeing/Kayaking department have successfully crossed the rivers of Koiliaris, Keritis, Kladissos, Platanianos.

In cooperation with the "Ermes Parapente Club", the mountaineers in Hania are setting feet off the ground, taking off from Falassarna and Malaxa. Twice a year, the "Ermes" organize a parapente school.
Info about Parapente: "Ermes Parapente Club", 0821 92892

The EOS of Hania also organizes Schools for Climing, Skiing, and Mountaineering.

"Madares", is the Club's illustrated bullettin.

The Hania EOS is also in charge of the four mountain shelters situated on the White Mountains of Crete, the mountain range of 31 gorges and 57 peaks higher than 2000m.

The Club's "Rescue Squad", has for years been successfully involved in mountain-rescue operations, in some instances in close colaboration with the Police , the Fire Brigade, the National Centre of First Aids (EKAB), etc.
