The first league derby was on November 25, 1925,
when 18,000 fans saw Dundee's Napper Thomson miss a
penalty and the sides play out a goalless draw on a
frostbound surface.
Of the 112 games to date United (179 goals) have won 55
and Dundee (144 goals) have won 35, with 22 being drawn.
The record at Tannadice is United 26 wins (and 80 goals), Dundee
19 wins (65 goals), with 10 draws.
At Dens Park, the Tangerines have notched 29 victories,
suffered 16 defeats and been involved in 12 draws.
They have netted 97 goals and conceded 78.
Dundee's biggest win came on September 28, 1926,
when Andy Campbell netted four times (the only occasion
that feat has been achieved in the fixture, although
United's Willie Pettigrew scored four in a Scottish Cup
tie) in a 5-0 victory.
United's biggest win came on the occasion of Tannadice
chairman Jim McLean's debut for the Dark Blues (September
11, 1965) when Finn Dossing claimed a hat-trick in a 5-0
victory.
The top scorers for each club in the fixture are in fact
ex-managers. Paul Sturrock leads the way for
the Tangerines with 11 goals, while Jocky Scott shares
the Dark Blues' honours with Andy Campbell, both men
netting eight times.
The biggest attendance came at Dens on May 14, 1983,
when 29,106 saw United win the league title.
The lowest gate of 7645 was on March 29, 1994, again at
Dens.
Of 60 derbies since league reconstruction, United have
won 37 and Dundee just 18.
