The first "Game Of The Season" was pretty disappointing in its quality, except for the first 5 minutes of Hapoel Haifa - an unstoppable pressing, when after 34 seconds it was a post of Goran Milenko, and after 5 minutes an incredible penetration of Najouan Grayib and a charming final touch of Oren Nissim. Shai Hess was incredible and saved several certain goals, and on the other hand, Dudu Awwat needed to wake up seriously only once - 12 minutes from time, it was his great flight to his left to deny the weak Moti Kakun, whose only chance during the game was from the penalty spot, after a foul on Angelkovic. Hapoel Haifa continued for the city what Maccabee Haifa started on Thursday in Europe; Hapoel Petakh-Tikwa, on the other hand, not only lost the game, but also Alon Maya, who couldn't stop another penetration of Najouan Grayib but with the foul that forced his expulsion with the 2nd yellow card.

Yaffa scored the opener, after a good wing penetration of Sharon Avitan and a finish of Sandy Valentinic, but then it learnt the hard way it shouldn't have pissed Beitar Jerusalem off. Those were the headers of Istvan Salloi (42, the goal pass - Yossi Abuksis) and Offer Shitrit (45, Shmuel Levi; 68, Istvan Salloi), as well as the shots of Nir Sevilla (44, Yossi Abuksis) and Istvan Salloi (58, Istvan Hamar); the 2 other goals were just extraordinary, the 1st and the last. 6 minutes from time, Istvan Hamar reached the pass of Jean Talesnikov one second before the miserable David Bella and rolled the ball from an incredibly hard angle under the keeper's stomach to his far corner. And the equalizer (28) was one of the certain contenders to become "The Goal Of The Season" - Yossi Abuksis bounced the ball into the box at half a height, and Istvan Salloi, "The Man Of The Week", raised to produce a half-back half-side scissors kick from 10 meters under the opposite crossbar and over the keeper, something Marco van Basten was so famous for doing.

Hapoel Rishon le-Zion - MACCABEE HAIFA 1:2 (1:1). [09/11/1998]

Despite the working day, this game caused a huge interest due to the Greens' extraordinary achievement in Europe; the game was pretty equal, as Haifa's players still felt tired. Guy Melamed and Alon Harazi would like to forget this game, in which Rafi Cohen quickly opened the score; there were lots of opportunities on both sides in the continuation, but Haifa finally performed a comeback and won due to its one and only, Alon Mizrahi.

After this game Kefar-Saba's coach Shimon Shenhar retired and gave his place to Moshe Sinai, who will have to fix quite a lot in his new team. Kefar-Saba totally lost the track after conceding the 2nd goal, and the last minutes with 2 quick goals conceded were just a shame. Both keepers, Yaron Melika and Sagi Strauss, weren't bad; the performance was stolen, however, by Georgi Daraselia, with 1 goal and 2 goal passes.

In an awful game which could well fit the end of the season for the midtable teams, there were only several good saves of Liran Strauber and several controversial moments - the referee Yaacov Ben-Hemo sucked as well as the teams. 4 minutes in the game, he totally disregarded the penalty foul of Ohad Cohen on Shai Aharon, and Guy Itzhak didn't get what he deserved on the other end (67). A dirty foul of Erez Bialla on Liran Strauber was worth ... a booking.

Probably, the biggest sensation of the weekend. The Vice-Champions went ahead after a good solo performance of the defender Shimon Gershon, who passed the keeper Akakiy Devadze and rolled the ball in from a hard angle. However, Alberto Naveda scored another incredible goal in his Israeli career - the bad ball of Shavit Elimelekh powerfully kicked his body and arched over a stunned keeper into his net. After the break, the hosts added 2 goals, from the legs of Eyal Almoshnino and the natural-born scorer Amir Turgeman, and this score was still a big compliment to the miserable guests. Salim Tuama, the Vice-Champions' promising young defender, was sent off with his 2nd booking (76).

The best game of the weekend produced a great drama and several goals of a real quality. Maccabee Tel-Aviv, which was much more active than the guests, opened the score after 27 minutes, when David Revivo raised a free kick from the left wing into the box, and a small touch of Alon Offir was continued by Offir Haim into the net. In 3 minutes, a good pass of Vladimir Niederhaus was cleverly volleyed by Oren Dantziger to the far corner, but saw the veteran Alexander Uvarov in a great quality save; however, even Uvarov could do nothing against the misleading move and a sharp shot of Niederhaus from 12 meters to his right post and in (51). The Yellows, with Eli Driks finally returning to the squad as a substitute after a serious injury, had a golden opportunity to go ahead after a dubious foul on Avi Nimni inside the box, but Kubica failed to overplay Shuli Gilardi (73); in 6 minutes, they conceded a goal that would be a very serious contender for "The Goal Of The Season" - the defender Igal Entebbi kidnapped the ball at the left wing, passed another defender, approached the corner flag, and sent from there an incredible ball (nobody knows whether this was an intentional shot or a failed pass), catching Uvarov off-guard and deflecting in after hitting the bar! What a beauty! And still, unlike in the last games, the finish was of Maccabee Tel-Aviv - first, it was a solo penetration of Avi Nimni through all the center of Herzliya's defence and a flat shot past Gilardi, and finally, it was a moment of atonement for a great Andrzej Kubica, who passed his defender and the keeper and won the game.

An important bottom game ended finally with the victory of the hosts, 3:2. The finishing skill of Cobi Refua (30) and Yossi Gordana (47, after a great pass of Yossi Madar) gave the Oranges a promising 2:0 lead, but the new purchase of the guests, Dudu Dahan, headed a reducer in (53). 1 minute from time, it was an incredible save of Meir Cohen from a shot of Madar, but the ball deflected to the post and from there to Cobi Refua who had no problems to score. Shimon Danan still managed to reduce the score once again with a greatly taken free kick, but it wasn't enough.
