A typical end-of-the-season game, played without many key players in both squads, was nothing special to talk about, except for Haifa's goals. Ilan Tal opened the score, 10 minutes in the game, after a clever free kick of Ran Ben-Shimon, and the captain himself scored a very beautiful goal, 20 minutes from time, sending a fantastic bomb from 20 meters under the crossbar of the keeper Dudu Goresh. And finally, 5 minutes from time, it was the goal pass of Eyal Tertetski for the first goal of Haim Hageage in the Red club. A couple of minutes before, Najouan Grayib was substituted to end his Israeli career to the loud ovation - the man, who passed in Petakh-Tikwa before his star period in Hapoel Haifa, will play now in Tottenham Hotspurs with David Ginola and Les Ferdinand, no more and no less.

For the Yellows, it was enough to end the game with a draw, but they were bewildered to end the season well - besides, it was important for them to win at least one title this season, namely, "The Best League Scorer", and Andrzej Kubica indeed succeeded in that. The perfect referee Alon Yaffet disallowed no less than 3 Maccabee's goals, but the superiority of the runners-up was too huge. Guy Tsarfati, "The Man Of The Game", finally opened the score before the break, and after the 2 goals of Kubica, everything went just smoothly. Several minutes were given to Eli Driks, one of the best Israeli forwards ever, seconds before his retirement from the club and most probably from the active career, and to Eli Biton, the 17-years-old youngster who is considered to be the next hope; Driks scored one goal himself and assisted to Biton for the sealing effort. Let's hope that Maccabee's attack is as lethal in Europe as it was in the League.

Frustrated from its loss to Yaffa, the Greens exploded vs the nonchalant Hapoel Petakh-Tikwa, only to make the devoted Haifa fans feel the bitter disappointment for the titleless season. Offir Koppel opened the score, after 20 minutes of play, and 13 minutes later, Arik Benado registered his personal opener this season with a tremendous volley from 16 meters, 2:0. Early in the 2nd half, the Polish National team captain Jerzy Brzeczek scored a goal of determination against the lost Eyal Abramov, and minutes from the end of the season, "the Diamond" Yossi Benayoun sealed the score. Maccabee indeed promised to come to the Intertoto Cup with an utter seriosity in order to reach the UEFA Cup through it; however, with the likes of Juventus and Westham in this unprestigious Cup it will be hard enough this season.

Ashdod is known for taking the points from the high-ranked teams, and this time, it needed the victory like an air for a breath; Beitar's chance to catch the European place was a very slim one, and therefore an one-sided game could be expected. Except the keeper Itzhak Korenfein and the midfielder Yossi Abuksis, however, Beitar was playing with its optimal squad, and so the game became quite interesting. A clever goal of Tibor Balog from 25 meters (13) and the 19th goal of Amir Turgeman this season (30) made Ashdod very confident, but no confidence was left in the middle of the 2nd half - Ashdod's graduate Jean Talesnikov was knocked down inside the hosts' box, and Istvan Salloi reduced the score with a calmly taken penalty. The winner in Shkhunat-ha'Tikwa was obvious, and therefore, Ashdod desperately needed to preserve the score - and the team of Nissim Bakhar succeeded in that.

A game of no importance, except for the official celebrations of the fresh Cup holders Hapoel Tel-Aviv, became actually an interesting duel between the Red forwards and the 2nd keeper of Herzliya, Guy Solomon (the veteran Shuli Gilardi underpassed a difficult shoulder surgery and will be absent for 3-4 months). The keeper showed a bright skill and denied singlehandedly the great header of Moti Ohayon and the rebound of Idan Tal (14), a bomb of Sebastian Simerotic (27) and a shot of Salim Tuama (70); just before the break, Idan Tal hit the bar. However, twice Solomon gave up too, after the 2 shots of the young Salim Tuama (58, 81).

A festival of Rishon le-Zion brought the team its best ever 7th place in the Israeli League, a big victory of the coach Elisha Levi in general and over his brother Elias Levi (Beit-Shean's coach) in particular. A good shot of Nissan Capeta, 10 minutes before the break, opened the score, and when Haim Irmiyahu (47) missed an opportunity to equalize, just after the break, Beit-Shean surrendered. A beautiful flying header of Rafi Cohen (52) and 2 mighty far-rangers (one from a free kick) of Dani Albert made the score humiliating. This was not the end yet, as Nissan Capeta scored just another goal (84). Finally, Dudu Dahan was sent off for a dirty foul on Oren Rothem (88), and Capeta sealed the score with a perfectly taken free kick from 22 meters, 6:0.

Maccabee Yaffa managed to score for the 2nd consecutive week, quite an achievement for this team this season; this time, however, it wasn't enough vs the 3 goals of Hapoel Jerusalem's youngsters. A beautiful shot of David Houdeida from 20 meters (3) and a close-ranger of Shai Aharon became their opening goals for this season (better later than never, indeed), and Mahmoud Salman went on scoring, after a clever misleading move on his defender (36). Omri Afek, as I said before, could just reduce the score in the garbage time. Victory was the last result that the outgoing coach of Jerusalem, the legendary Yossi Mizrahi, managed to achieve. With nearly no money, their achievements are just remarkable.

The big show of the closing night, that's for sure. Who could've believed that the most tensed game of this season to be expected would become a pleasure for one team after just 70 minutes?.. Indeed, the 2 quick goals of Hezi Shirazi and Cobi Refua gave Bnei-Yehuda a certain confidence, but when Nir Sokher reduced the score with the 1st half injury time header, after another goal pass of Georgi Daraselia, the interest sprang to life again. Not for very long, though, as Yossi Madar managed to score 10 minutes after the break, and here Holon was broken. The 2 lightning-striking goals of Refua came only to humiliate the relegating squad and to make the forward "The Player Of The Week", but they weren't needed for Bnei-Yehuda's survival - Holon was too hopeless to equalize. The celebrations in Shkhunat-ha'Tikwa, which representative stays in the best Israeli League during the last week for the 2nd consecutive season, were incredible and similar to the Championship celebration 9 seasons ago. And can you imagine that only several years ago the Oranges enjoyed the services of the superstars like Victor Chanov, Nikolai Kudritskiy, Alon Mizrahi, Haim Revivo?..
As for Holon. This is the team that enjoys the unprecedental face-to-face balance for the relegating squad in one season - +8=0-7! This is the team that scored some unbelievably beautiful goals this season, including the 2 masterpieces that inflicted upon Beitar Jerusalem its only home loss this season (just for the sake of comparison - the only other points lost at home by the ex-Champions were taken by Rishon le-Zion in a great sensation, 2:2, and by the 2 Haifa grands, in sweaty 1:1 draws). This is the team that enjoyed the skill of 1st class (in the Israeli scale) legionaries like Samson Siasiah, Georgi Daraselia and Martin Pashko, and the team to finish 8th after Round 1. However, the disastrous Round 2, including the last minute loss to Beit-Shean from the refereeing mistake and the luckless last minute draw with Yaffa, brought the team to the abyss - and it was another proof that without money and with a young and unexperienced core, you can go nowhere. Let's hope for Holon they can return back the next season, though it won't be easy.
