This was an exciting match as the score indicates. The North fans
were very upset at the 119 match when IZ brought Jeff Severino to the
mat hard, and although he was awarded 2 points for the takedown, the OT
coach called for a slam call and the point was awarded. Jeff Severino did
not return and OT was awarded 6 points. North, normally strong in the lower
weights, trailed 18-6 thru 130. Balut, Furnari and Perry responded with
a fall, a major and a decision, and North gained the lead at 19-18. Paul
Versarge wrestled well but gave up 2 at the buzzer and lost 5-3. Justin
Bagley took a commanding lead, but the OT wrestler balled up, and North
regained the lead. John Bendokas wrestled a strong bout but lost and Ocean
had their last lead, 24-23. Neil Picone regained the lead for North with an
8-4 decision. John Schaible (Mr Dependable) came up with a first period pin
to Ice the match. North forfeited the hwt bout. This was the third time in the
last 5 matches that John has pinned to ice the win for North.
In the early match, Ocean easily handled Long Branch, winning 41-31, while forfeiting
the last two weight classes.
