North Hunterdon High School Team

Each year North Hunterdon Wrestling honors its Senior wrestlers and parents at the last duel meet. Tonight we honor 14 wrestlers and their parents who put in countless hours of hard work and sacrafices to bring North Hunterdon Wrestling to the level it stands at today.

We also would like to honor the Senior Cheerleaders and their parents, of which today we have only 1.

CHEERLEADER: Sandra Mueller and her parents, Bruce and Barbara Mueller. Sandra's accomplishments are:

• Cheered for JV Wrestling Team her freshman year.
• Cheered for Varsity Wrestling Team her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year.
• Sandra plans to go to Raritan Valley next year and eventually graduate from Rutgers with a degree in Elementary Education.

At this time we would like to recognize each wrestler and his parents.

WRESTLER: 125 lbs - Mike Jeffry and his parents, Mr and Mrs Jim Jeffry.

• Mike is a 4 year letter winner
• A 1996 Region 5 Champion
• A 1996 7th/8th place Finisher in the NJ States
• 1997 Captain
• Current Record is 18 - 3
• Mike has been accepted at Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers, he is waiting to hear from Cornell, Princeton, and the Naval Accadamy. Mike plans to continue wrestling in college.

WRESTLER: 130 lbs - Brian Powers his parents, Tom and Ellen Powers.

• Brian is a 3 year letter winner
• A 1996 District 17 Champion
• Current Record is 16 - 4
• Brian has been accepted at University of Maryland and Virginia Tech.
• Brian plans to continue wrestling in college.

WRESTLER: 135 lbs - Eric Denlinger and his parents, Mr and Mrs Bob Denlinger.

• Eric is a 3 year letter winner
• A 1995 District 17 Runner-up
• A 1995 3rd place in Region 5
• Current Record is 10-7
• Eric plans to continue wrestling in college at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.

WRESTLER: 135 lbs - Eric Hansen and his parents, Mr and Mrs Doug Hansen.

Eric has been a very important member of our squat the last four years. His committment and "Team" ethic is greatly appreciated by his fellow wrestlers and coaches.

Eric plans to continue his education next year at Kutztown College and play Lacross.

WRESTLER: 140 lbs - Kelly Pierce and his parents, Mr and Mrs Bob Pierce.

• Kelly is a 3 year letter winner
• A 1996 District 17 Champion
• 1997 Captain
• Current Record is 18 - 3
• Kelly has been accepted at Virginia Tech and University of Maryland
• Kelly plans to continue wrestling in college.

WRESTLER: 140 lbs - Anthony Versarge (not present).

WRESTLER: 145 lbs - Matt Dandeo and his parents, Mr and Mrs John Dandeo.

Matt is another senior, who has given many years to our program. His current record is 4-4. Matt has a great work ethic and a fine young man to coach.

Matt plans to attend college next year at Kutztown University.

WRESTLER: 145 lbs - Dan Degan Pierce and his parents, Mr and Mrs Pat Degan.

• Dan is a 3 year letter winner
• A 1997 Captain
• A 1996 Hunterdon Warren County Champion
• A 1996 District 17 Runner up
• Current Record is 7 - 3
• Dan hopes to attend either Bucknell University or Boston College next year.
• Dan plans to continue wrestling in college.

WRESTLER: 145 lbs - Brian Flynn.

Brian is a first year wrestler, and his efforts and committment is greatly appreciated by the team and staff. It takes a special individual to wish to participate in wrestling after not participating for 3 years.

WRESTLER: 160 lbs - Dan Shappell and his parents, Jody and Allan Baguskis.

• Dan is a 4 year letter winner
• Excellent student and athlete
• Current Record is 10-9
• Dan plans to attend Junior College next year before going on to a 4 year college.

WRESTLER: 170 lbs - Eric Arnold and his parents, Mr and Mrs Harry Arnold.

• Eric is a 1997 Captain
• A 4 year letter winner
• A 1996 District 17 3rd Place Finisher
• A 1997 Brick Holiday Tournament Champion
• Current Record is 16-4
• Eric has been accepted in Penn State and Rutgers. Hi is waiting to hear from Princeton University. Eric hopes to continue wrestling in college.

WRESTLER: 189 lbs - Mark Shaneck and his parents, Mr and Mrs Paul Shaneck.

Mark is one of our most improved wrestlers this year. He has excellent work habits and is an excellent student.

Mark plans to attend MIT, Princeton, or Harvard next year.

WRESTLER: 215 lbs - Shane Costello and his mother, Mickey Costello.

• Shane is a 2 year letter winner
• A 1996 3rd Place in District 17
• Also one of our most improved wrestlers this year
• Current Record is 15-5
• Shane plans to continue wrestling next year at East Stroudsburg College.

WRESTLER: 215 lbs - Brendan Lynch and his parents, Mr and Mrs Jame Lynch.

Brendan is an example of this year's senior committment. He shows up every day, for four years, works hard, and hopefully the memories and friendships he carries for the rest of his life were worth all the time and effort!!!
Brendan plans to attend college next year, but has not decided which one.

It is rare that a wrestling team today graduates 14 seniors in one year. It is a credit to these young men, for sticking together over 4 years, going through the ups and downs of wrestling, but always remaining together.

These young men over the four years have accomplished the following:
3 time District 17 Champions
3 time Central Jersey Group III Champions
1996 John Golds Christmas Tournament Champions
Travelled together to - University of Virginia, Cornell University (twice), University of North Carolina.
Overall, the Four year dual meet record of 71 wins and 11 losses.

And, VERY HIGH HOPES FOR THE END OF THIS SEASON
