Quale 11/98
Well fellow cyclist, here we are nearly at the end of 1998. Time
to begin some serious reflection so that next year can be
planned. How was this year? What was it like? Can you list any
accomplishments?
For me this was a year that wobbled. Cycling is the focus of all
my activities. Sort of the wheel that allows my life to spin. As
with all wheels, there are many spokes. Each spoke is an event in
my life. A major event was the announcement that my employer
would merge. Along with this came word that most functions
including those in my area would go to the Boston operation. This
was like a spoke that snapped. After that the year continued like
a wheel out of true. Time and the miles seemed to wobbled despite
efforts to ignore. The first thought was put cycling aside to
concentrate on finding new employment. This only caused my
“wheel” to wobble even more. I soon realized that by
eliminating cycling events from my life was like removing more
spokes from a wheel. Any cyclist knows that you should not true a
wheel by removing spokes.
I resumed cycling and like replacing the spokes, my
“wheel” trued much better. In fact there were several
accomplishments. Most notably were the completion of back to back
century tours. This was the first time centuries were ridden on
consecrative days and increased my lifetime total to 19.
Highlights of this year’s centuries are available by going
to Multiple Sclerosis City to Shore.
Other accomplishments include over 2,600 miles ridden, leading
roughly 60 tours while establishing, maintaining and expanding
this cycling web site.
Seems I may have forgotten about my job predicament! Not exactly,
I have requested to be considered for a Team Leader position. If
this fails, then a lateral move as a Support Team member will be
accepted. Both positions are in Information Technology and will
extend employment beyond the year 2,000.
Where do we go from here? I need your help to plan next year. Let
me hear from you. Tell me about what happened in 1998...you now
know what is needed...how was the year...what was it like...any
accomplishments?
Autumn is now here...and Quest Tours
have ended. You
can see the great rides you may have missed and plan to catch
them next year. You can also visit Freewheel’n
that currently
explains how RePete came upon that name. These are submitted and
published in the South Jersey Wheelmen’s monthly newsletter.
You can read the latest before the newsletter is released by
visiting after the middle of each month.
Then there are the Quale
sites where
topics are varied, like the highly imaginative Tales of Pauline.
Also visit the Quote
site that
contain your comments. Here you will find submissions on
Bicyclist Against Helmets and many other issues and links.
Additionally, don’t forget to visit the South Jersey
Wheelmen
and the Outdoor Club of
South Jersey
web sites.
Interested in having your cycling performance maintained? RePete
will provide a series of reports that include both charts and
graphs on various information such criteria as distance, time,
speed, weight and more. You will receive reports showing these
criteria and displayed by individual ride as well as summarized
into weekly and monthly totals that are also graphically
represented! Your year to date criteria are also provided and
summarized by average ride, longest ride, shortest ride, fastest
ride, slowest ride and totaled. Email me at RePete@snip.net for
more information on this
great feature.
The next update of Quibbles is scheduled for mid-December and for
now...Happy Thanksgiving!
Safe Cycling,
RePete
