Freewheel'n - February, 2001

This just in…Montana House bill 212, titled "Require bicyclists to ride against
traffic when riding outside city limits", is scheduled for a public hearing. The bill, while well intentioned, is a bad idea. Studies show that "wrong way" riding is a major cause of bicycling injuries and death. The contradictory sets of rules of the road created by this bill are confusing and dangerous.

A transportation committee hearing is scheduled for January 24th. Phone numbers for both the Montana House and Senate: 444-4800. Fax: Montana House of Representatives 444-1865, Montana Senate 444-3472. Email: http://leg.state.mt.us/leg_msg.htm. More details will appear on my web site. Let your opinions be known!!

The excitement is building. Yes, the beginning of cycling is nearly here! I can almost smell the spring flowers and that fresh coat of wax on the bike…

RePete is working on plans that would start many rides at a new location. This will have more features than the starting point of last year’s rides at Mc D’s. More will be released shortly.

What about the rides? RePete has a total of eight with the Friendship opening these tours for the SJW on May 19th. Then on June 10th, a combined ride with the OCSJ to the Pro Championships Race in Philadelphia is scheduled. A full listing will be available on my web site.

Improvements are also planned for my web site. These will include the addition of more photos as well as Presence. Online Presence allows people to see if RePete is currently online. By clicking the Presence image, visitors to my page can send me an instant message!

What else? RePete will attend either the Convention or the Seagull. Then there are the other tours including the Princeton Event, City to Shore, Get Ready, Bridgeton Zoo and the Jersey Devil. Information is now available on my web site on many of these rides.

Hope you join me this year!
