I Can't Remember!
| I can’t remember anything from the game Friday. I do remember
singing along with Rich Storm’s new CD, “Friday Night Soundtrack.”
It is amazing how fast all of the Duffers learned the words to “The City
of New Orleans”. I sent out the following appeal for help on Wednesday
and got some help: “I started writing the newsletter and I can't
remember anything that happened Friday. Who won? Who scored?
Meaningful?”
The King’s reply: “I can help. The King for the first time in his career scored a "Hat rick". He also skated the whole game and was looking to play another game. Then He woke up.” |
Doc’s reply: “Who won? Blue (or maybe white) Who scored? I got one for blues: Meaningful? It was to me. Coughenour’s reply: Uncle Bob scored on one of two breakaways. Tattoo (formerly Gilbert) scored two tap in goals while sporting hisnew "unauthorized" Duffer Logo on his shoulder. Miller lite scored at least one on Gary. Stump returned to the ice to play defense instead of referee. Did Doc score? |

beat Eddie early, but only once. Beak took a pass from Thor, popped
it into the air, then slapped it past Eddie for the meaningful win.
Wheezer checked Allen into the boards. His feet were still pumping
furiously as he hit the ice horizontally. Non Hayward Duffers at
Henrys saw a good clean fight near the door and promptly sang out Jerry,
Jerry, Jerry! The King made an executive decision to start planning
a fully sanctioned Duffer trip to New Orleans for next season! Count
me in! |

Harvey and Beak Dazzle Hayward Goalies
| The Mayor of Hayward supplied us with 2 teen age goalies who were
way to quick for their own good One was heard complaining that Duffers
were boring, Then Beak faked a slap shot and slid a slow wrist shot past
him. Ken blew a slap shot past him, while Tweedy blew one past the
other goalie. Harvey rolled a couple of shots past the White goalie
and finished the night with 4 goals, After Beak deflected two more
past him, he said we were lucky. Beak finished the night with 5 goals
past the bored goalie. Tweedy played 3 games on Saturday and 1 on
Sunday. His team lost the championship to the Hayward Muskies, when
Mayor Duffy shut them out.
We had a great time in Hayward, but we lost the beer drinking contest. We needed a few more drinkers to help us out. We also lost the battle to stay under $200. We needed 3 more guys to break even. What did you learn in Catholic school? When you are short of money, have a fund raiser. We are planning a Hayward Bowling fund raiser in June and a Hayward video sneak preview on April 14 at the Beak Deck. Harvey’s dancing video will also be shown. A fun Tax may be assessed if you have too much fun. Beak’s wife is out of town that week end. If you are having trouble getting out for a road trip, get your lady signed up on Mrs. Beak’s bowling team. It worked for Ken and Uncle Bob! Graffiti Masterpiece.

| U.S. Women's National Team Blanks Russia,
15-0,
At IIHF Women's World Championship. MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (April 4, 2000) -- The 2000 United States Women's National Team downed Russia, 15-0, in 2000 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship action here Tuesday evening. All but one skater on the U.S. roster registered a point in the runaway win. Cammi had 2 goals and 1 assist. Cammi also had 2 goals as U.S. Women's National Team Defeated Germany, 16-1. Beak and Wheezer are checking into a “Bed and Breakfast” in MISSISSAUGA, Ontario Saturday. They will see the Semi final game on Saturday and the Gold Medal game on Sunday. |

| Peoria sweeps Dayton in Three!
The first post season series ever between these two former affiliates begins tonight with game one of their best-of-5 Northern Conference Quarterfinal Series. Peoria finished the regular season atop the northern Conference with a record of 45-20-5, backing in to the top seed when Roanoke lost its' last 3 games. Dayton has lost its' last 4 games and hasn't won on the road since a February 22, 4-1 decision at Huntington. Game two of this series will be at Carver Arena on Wednesday, April 5 with games 3 and 4 moving to the Nutter Center near Dayton, Ohio. Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday, April 6 and Game 4, if necessary will be played on Tuesday, April 11. If a game 5 is needed the series moves back to Peoria with the game set for Wednesday, April 12. Dayton entered the ECHL in 1991 and has made the post season in each of its' 9 seasons. During that span, the Bombers have gone 10-24 in post season games, winning only one first round series. That win came in the 1994-95 playoffs when the Bombers eliminated Huntington, 3 games to 1. Dayton has lost 3 of their series in 3 game sweeps and has taken two to the full 5-game format. The Rivermen had to feel good entering the last two weeks of the season, having just finished the franchises most successful road schedule, winning 23 of 35 games and facing 5 straight at home, including 3 games against cellar dwellars Wheeling and Toledo. After being stung by the Nailers for two straight losses at home Roanoke came into Carver Arena for a game to determine the Northern Conference's top seed. The Express would end the season with 3 road games after playing in Peoria. Roanoke left Peoria with a 3-point lead over the Rivermen and needed only a win to take the top seed. The Express would lose all 3 games while the Rivermen bounced back with consecutive wins over Toledo (6-4) and Dayton (4-1) to capture the Northern Conference for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. As the Rivermen enter the playoffs for their 4th straight season the team looks to improve on its' past two playoff series. The last time the Rivermen won the Northern Conference regular season they opened with Hampton Roads and got swept by a team that went on to win the Kelly Cup. Last year, Peoria opened with Toledo and after trouncing the Storm in game one, lost the next 3 straight to bow out in the first round for the second straight season. This season brings a new coach and a different team to the post season. Peoria's post season mark is 8-9, which includes 2 series the Rivermen swept and one in which the Rivermen were swept. Peoria has yet to go the full 5 games in any of its' 5 playoff series. The Rivermen playoff roster includes some players currently with Worcester (AHL), Trevor Wasyluk, Cody Rudkowsky, and Matt Smith. Didier Tremblay returned from Worcester today and the others are expected soon. Left off the roster was James Desmarais, who was reassigned to Worcester following Friday's game vs. Toledo and Luke Gruden who was placed on the 14-day Injured Reserve list following Saturday's game with Dayton. Also back from the IR is Trevor Baker. The Rivermen are led in scoring by Joe Rybar, with 17G/51A. Rybar led the team in assists, also. Blaine Fitzpatrick leads the team in goals scored with 31, and adds 32 assists for as the team's 2nd leading scorer. Fitzpatrick led the team in PP goals (10) and game winning scores (6). Duane Derksen won 30 games for Peoria, setting a new team franchise mark for wins and had the league's 2nd highest total. The Rivermen won 26 games against Northwest Division teams, winning 7 games each against Toledo, Dayton and Huntington. Against the Northeast Division, Peoria went 12-5-1, winning 6 games on the road. The Rivermen also took a 7-3-0 record against the Southern Conference sweeping season series against Baton Rouge, Mississippi, Arkansas and Birmingham. The only teams to dominate Peoria this season were Johnstown, winning 3 of the 4 games against Peoria, and New Orleans, who swept the Rivermen, 2-0-0. Peoria ended the regular season with the most goals scored in the first (94) and second periods (105) and average 3.90 a game, the league's 6th highest total. The Rivermen allow the least shots on net by the opposition, at 26.23, while taking the ECHL's 2nd most shots on goal (35.94). Peoria dominated the season series with Dayton taking 7 of the 10 games played, including the last 5 in the series. At Carver Arena, Peoria has a 4-0-1 mark this season. |
