WBA World Light Middleweight Champion
Duran represented Spain as a welterweight at the 1968 Olympics, losing in the round of sixteen. He won the European Light Middleweight Championship in 1974, and lost a WBC World title bout to Miguel de Oliviera in 1975. On May 18, 1976, Duran defeated Koichi Wajima for the WBA Light Middleweight crown, and held the belt until losing to Miguel Angel Castellini in October, 1976.
