1968 Olympic 200, 400 & 800 Meter Freestyle Champion
Meyer won the Pan American Games gold medals at the 400 & 800 meter freestyle events in 1967. In 1968, Meyer became the first swimmer to win three individual gold medals at one Olympics, winning the 200 meter, 400 meter and 800 meter freestyle events. She had previously set world records in all three events at the United States Olympic Trials. She was selected as the Sullivan Award Winner as the nation's outstanding amateur athlete in 1968 and the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1969. In 1986, she was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.
