Pietrangeli won the French Championship men's singles in 1959 and 1960. He also won the mixed doubles championship in 1958 and men's doubles in 1959. His best showing at Wimbledon was a semifinal loss to Rod Laver in 1960. Pietrangeli represented Italy in Davis Cup from 1954 to '72, participating in a record 164 rubbers, winning a record 120. The Italian team lost the Davis Cup to Australia in 1960 and '61, he captained the team to the Davis Cup Title in 1976. Pietrangeli was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1986.
