I found one column that I liked while sorting through some old papers, and I've transcribed it here: The Mets Can't Get Any Relief, a story about rebirth, new hope and three relievers having really bad days. A fun one. It appeared in the Columbia Daily Spectator on April 4, 1997.
I've put another one in similarly spartan form (unfortunately, that's how it appeared in the e-zine as well): Four-on-SCORE!, early reaction to the AHL's 4-on-4 overtime format from February 1999. Originally appeared in The Hockey Insider, which at that time was publishing on no set schedule and never linked to it, despite the managing editor's repeated requests to those who could fix it.
In the absence of all the other old and good stuff, I'm sorry to say you're stuck with my "Opening Tirades." My favorite of all is this one:
The Greatest, April 18, 1999. I hold myself to a completely different standard when writing a topper for my web page (generally, I hold myself to no standard when writing my "opening tirade" -- it's just for fun). But while I wouldn't consider it publication-worthy in current form (length and emotion work against it), I'm proud of this one, written at Wayne Gretzky's retirement from hockey.
