Age of
Empires Cheats
I am terrible at games. This I know. I have no strategies whatsoever, my reaction times are slower than just about anything, and also, I'm not at all interested in improving the above problems. Thus, cheat codes! Like I said, Age of Empires has great cheat codes. They can either give you a little push, make you invincible (and thus for you sadists you can pulverize the opposition), or just speed things up for those of us that have no patience. Cheat codes will occasionally cause slight problems in the game, and that's too bad--deal with it. I did :)
All these cheats work on my version of AOE, which is IBM-compatible.
They probably work on Macs too, but I dunno. To use these cheat codes,
during the game press enter to bring up the chat window, type in the code,
and press enter again.
PS. If you hear a sound and see the code words in white on the upper left
side of the screen, you've typed it in wrong.
Code | Effect | Comments (if any) |
pepperoni pizza | Gives you 1000 food
woodstock | Gives you 1000 wood
coinage | Gives you 1000 gold
quarry | Gives you 1000 stone
reveal map | reveals map (duh) | Only reveals landscape and animals |
no fog | no fog of war (that shadowy stuff over the map) | With fog of war off and map revealed, you can see opponents' units, etc. |
home run | wins scenario | Very cheap cheat, but sometimes necessary for a buggy scenario... |
diediedie | all others die | I haven't tried this one...maybe I should. |
hari kari | suicide (kills yourself) | Haven't tried this one either. |
resign | you resign | Nope, haven't tried this one. Notice a trend that I don't try the ones that supposedly make you lose? :) |
kill# | kills player # | For those of you that have some problems, replace the # sign with the number of the player you want to kill. To figure put who's who, go to the diplomacy window and count down. |
steroids | instant everything (buildings, technologies, people) | My favorite cheat. Problem is, other civs get instant stuff too! |
big bertha | super catapults | Very good improvement |
ICBM | ballistas get huge range | These shoot across the map, but there are some problems that I'm sure you'll figure out but are too hard to explain here. |
hoyohoyo | super priests (speedy too) | These priests are great. They zip around fast and have huge hit points. |
jack be nimble | catapults shoot cows or villagers depending on the direction they shoot | This is very amusing. |
flying dutchman | catapult ships go on land | Problem is you get attacked by land units. |
medusa | turns villagers into medusas | Medusas can't build or repair. When killed turn into dark riders and when killed again turn into catapults. |
dark rain | turns composite bowmen into stealth bowmen | Stealth bowmen turn into trees when they aren't moving. They also walk across water. |
black rider | turns horse archers into dark riders | Dark riders have larger hit points/damage I think. |
gaia | you control Gaia units and animals instead of your people | Interesting to do, but you can't usually win scenarios with a pack of lions... |
photon man | nuke trooper appears at your town center | You must have a town center for this to appear at. See men around title above. |
e=mc2 trooper | rocket trooper appears at your town center | Looks just like nuke troopers, but they shoot rockets |
bigdaddy | Winsett's Z (fast rocket car) appears at town center | Great for destroying large quantities of enemy buildings, but these blow each other up easily and you better watch out if they're converted! See picture below. |
