DAILY JOURNAL COMMENTS:
Today we got up around 8:00 and after putting our gear into our bags and putting them out of the way for the day, we had a quick breakfast. I had Honey Nut Cheerios and two oranges and we then went to a local empty lot to do a three hour service project. We got some work gloves and started to throw rocks away from a house into one big pile. After these rocks were cleared out, we used a jackhammer to break up large pieces of concrete. After this was removed, we used a tractor to pull out a series of iron fence rods and a few large tree stumps. A local news station came and took pictures of us working and then interviewed Tami about what Bike-Aid is about. We finished the project around 1:00 and had a lunch of left over dinner from the previous night. We then had some free time to do what we wanted and I discovered that I could go to a local elementary school and use their phone line to connect to the internet. This was the first time I had been able to connect for about three days. I received my list of six e-mails and updated my page. I then came back to the church and ate some more before organizing my gear and helping on some bike advice. Around 5:30 we had a meeting on how to use David's bike stand, the cell phone, and the bike rack. We got the call for dinner which consisted of a beef stew with lots of vegetables and some type of pasta. The pasta cooked up well and expanded, making much more than we thought that we would have. We only ate about half of the food and gave most of the rest away to a group of people called "Food not Bombs." I learned some words and then made a box for my sunglasses out of an old Stoker Bar box. I put all of my gear on my bike and made lunch for the next day since I would be getting up early and then went out for some ice cream. I went to a local burger place where I had a strawberry milkshake for 83 cents. We came back to the church once again and got ready for tomorrow and I ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich before getting ready for bed and finally going to sleep around 11:30.
