December 2001 - A new leadership team has swept through
Brisbane’s western suburbs Shamrocks Gaelic Football Club following
the annual general meeting at Irish O’Hanlon’s in Kenmore this
week.
Bardon’s David Duguid – a Queensland senior
representative and the club’s reserves best and fairest award winner
this year – has been elected president for the first time.
Matt Walsh from Riverhills – two-time Queensland
senior championship-winner and Queensland senior representative – has
been elevated to vice president.
Duguid and Walsh replace the leadership team of
Brookfield’s Harold Peacock and Nicholas Carpenter of Oxley, who step
back to the general committee after three years at the top.
During that three-year term, the Shamrocks
established strong financial credentials, expanded a strong membership
base, achieved worldwide media coverage, and won three Queensland
Championships including the ladies championship this year for the first
time.
There are five new faces in the Shamrocks
committee – secretary John Collins (Hemmant), Juanita Chaffey (Wavell
Heights), David Gall (Seventeen Mile Rocks), and Greg Joyce (Everton
Hills).
Shamrocks are now searching for new players and
coaches for the new season that starts in February. Call 3374 3130 or

Shamrocks are proudly supported by Irish

Another championship for Shamrocks -
this time it's in Meath
16 October 2001 -
Shamrocks connections secured another championship with the tiny
Kilmainham club winning the County Meath Gaelic football title in
Ireland recently.
Graham Walsh - who scored 1 goal 5
points for Brisbane's western suburbs Shamrocks club in the 2000
Queensland championship-winning season - scored 1 goal 1 point in the
final for Kilmainham. Kilmainham is the smallest club in
County Meath and one of the smallest in all of Ireland. The
side was captained by Patsy Walsh (pictured), uncle of Graham Walsh, and
also uncle of current Shamrocks player and Queensland representative Matt
Walsh. Matt, who recently returned from the Australasian
championships in which he was a major player as Queensland qualified
for the semi finals, played with Kilmainham in Ireland last year. Terry
Riley, who this year set three Shamrocks reserves scoring records, also
plays with Kilmainham when in Ireland. The local
newspaper "Meath Chronicle" trumpeted, "Graham Walsh
provided a major injection of confidence for Kilmainham." The Meath
victory for the famous Walsh family continues a successful year for
Shamrocks, winning the senior mens Brisbane Shield, International Rules
Shield, and ladies Queensland Championship. For
the record, Kilmainham won the County Meath Junior B Gaelic football
cup by beating Longwood 3-12-21 to 0-9-9. Shamrocks continues to search now for more players for
the new season that starts in February 2002. Complete
this form to register on-line. See match report from
the Meath Chronicle
