26 May 2008 - Shamrocks continued its winning start to the ladies Gaelic football season with its eighth consecutive win at Willawong at the weekend.

Shamrocks play defending ladies champions Harps this Sunday.

The Shamrocks mens team made it two wins at the weekend by beating Harps due to a team sheet irregularity by their opponents.

Padraig Martin and Ian McLoughlin were the best players in the match. They now play Easts Celts on Sunday.

Loss does not bode well for final

19 May 2008 - Gaelic football’s Brisbane Shield final next month doesn’t bode well for the western suburbs’ Shamrocks club after it lost to its coming final opponents in a Queensland League match at Willawong at the weekend.

John Mitchels 3-6-15 beat Shamrocks 1-5-8 to avenge a loss back in April, and claim favouritism for the June 13 showdown.

Padriag Martin scored the only goal for Shamrocks, while the best players were Jack Dixon, Donagh O’Malley, Dave O’Malley, Michael Gallagher, and Martin.

Shamrocks play Harps this Sunday in Queensland League action, while the ladies team play Easts Celts.

Draw may be enough

28 April 2008 - The Queensland Gaelic Football League is yet to start, but the drawn match at Willawong over the weekend may be enough to advance Brisbane’s western suburbs Shamrocks to its eighth consecutive Brisbane Shield Final in June.

Colin Farrelly was best on ground and scored a decisive point as Shamrocks 1-10 drew with Souths 1-10.

Shamrocks could now play three-time defending Shield champions John Mitchels in the June 13 final.

Other leading contributors were Monty Gallagher, Dave O’Malley, and Luke Devitt, while leading scorers were Shane Gibney 1-2 and Marty Gallagher 0-4.

In the ladies match, Shamrocks ensured it finished the Brisbane Shield round undefeated at 5-0 by winning 4-22-34 over Souths 2-5-11.

Trish Brown was best on ground while scoring three points. Only five points separated the teams at half time.

“Trish Brown starred with great passing into the forward line and taking three points herself,” coach Cameron Carney said.

“Heidi Thompson again played well at half forward with great support play and taking points from great angles. Reanna Browne played well also with a bag full.”

Leading scorers were Lyndall Daley 3-2, Carly Richardson 1-2, Reanna Browne 0-10, and Heidi Thompson 0-5.

Browne boots another scoring spree

21 April 2008 - Reanna Browne continues as Gaelic football’s scoring sensation after she was again unstoppable in leading Shamrocks over the defending Brisbane Shield champions at Willawong at the weekend.

Browne was double-teamed all day but still managed to lead all scorers with 7 points, as Shamrocks 3-13-22 beat Harps 2-8-14.

Four weeks into the Brisbane Shield season, Shamrocks have a 4-0 win-loss record for it best start in three years, and Browne has kicked 7-34 and looks set to claim more than the three records that she has set already this year.

“The best on ground was Reanna Browne with 7 points, playing very impressively despite being tagged with two players,” coach Cameron Carney said.

“The entire team played exceptionally well, having only thirteen players the entire match – the back line played out of their skins forcing the opposition to work for every chance, winning almost every 50/50 contest.”

“This rewarded the midfielders for their hard work, allowing them to get the possession further up the field and start attacks early,” Carney added.

Also outstanding were Krystal Hansen, Carly Richardson, and Lyndall Daley who led the goal-scoring with 2-1.

This was the third win in four years by Shamrocks over Harps in the Brisbane Shield round, although Harps have won three of the last four Shield titles. The Brisbane Shield final is under lights on Friday 13 June.

In mens football, Shamrocks bounced back with a thrilling one-point win over Easts Celts to extend its win-loss record to 2-1.

Shamrocks 1-13-16 beat Easts Celts 2-9-15 with Justin Mosch 1-0, Colin Farrelly 0-5, and Fergal McManaman 0-4 leading the scoring.

Best players were David O’Malley, Luke Devitt, Micky Tighe, Farrelly, McManaman, and Padraig Maher.

Shamrocks play Souths this Sunday, with the ladies at 2pm and mens at 3:30pm.

Another week of falling records

14 April 2008 - For the second match in a row, Reanna Browne led Shamrocks on a record-smashing charge in Gealic football’s Brisbane Shield at Willawong over the weekend.

Browne’s 0-12 beat the points record she set last week as Shamrocks 17-25-76 beat Easts Celts 0-1-1 by a record-breaking 75-point margin.

The 76-point total was the highest ever by a ladies team, and Lyndall Daley kicked 7-goals to equal Sally Cooper’s goals record set three years ago. The team’s 17-goals beat the club’s oldest record set a decade ago.

In all, the Shamrocks ladies beat or equaled six scoring records to remain unbeaten with a 3-0 win-loss to start the Brisbane Shield competition, and appear likely to claim season scoring records when the year ends.

“Best on ground was Heidi Thompson who was very impressive, scoring 3-5 and setting up many attacking plays from half forward,” coach Cameron Carney said.

“The entire forward line played well who were supported strongly by the midfielders.”

“Once again the under-maned backline did well only allowing one point. The team again played well as a unit and took their scores, missing only a few of their shots which showed on the score card,” he added.

The full Shamrocks scorers were Daley 7-1, Thompson 3-5, Browne 0-12, Megan White 2-1, Carly Richardson 1-2, Kirby Short 1-0, Lauren Muller 1-0, Alycia Clayton 0-2 Trish Brown 0-1, and Sue Monsen 0-1

In the mens game, again Dave O’Malley was amongst the best and Shamrocks had little trouble scoring goals, but this time the opposition scored points too easily with Harps winning 1-14-17 to Shamrocks 3-5-14.

Michael Gallagher 1-3, Colin Farrelly 1-1, and Shane Gibney 1-0 scored the goals, while O’Malley, Luke Devitt and Gallagher were best for Shamrocks, which now has a 1-1 win-loss record.

This Sunday the Shamrocks mens play Easts Celts at 12:30pm, and the Shamrocks ladies play Harps at 2:00pm at Gaelic Park, Willawong.

Three year drought finally ends

7 April 2008 - Michael Gallagher’s brace of goals led the western districts’ Shamrocks to its first win over John Mitchels in almost three years in Gaelic football’s Brisbane Shield at Willawong over the weekend.

Gallagher kicked 2-3 and was amongst the best as Shamrocks won by three points 3-7-16 to John Mitchels 2-7-13.

Best on ground was Colin Farrelly who scored 0-3, and was well supported by Micky Tighe and Dave O’Malley.

Shamrocks’ win snapped a seven game losing streak against Mitchels, the previous victory being the unique league play-off for the Queensland League title in 2005.

Reanna Browne was best on ground and kicked a club record 10 points as her Shamrocks ladies team beat John Mitchels by a record-equaling 58 points margin 12-25-61 to 1-0-3.

Browne beat the oldest surviving individual record set by Jacqueline Peacock back in April 2000, to claim her second team record.

Lyndall Daley led the goal scoring with 3-2, supported by Kirby Short 2-3, Carly Richardson 2-2, and Browne 1-10.

“Reanna Browne was best on ground, taking her points well,” coach Cameron Carney said.

“Our forward line played well, improving their accuracy from last week. In fact the whole team played well as a unit once again.”

Other than Browne’s individual points record and the winning margin, other marks to fall were 25 points by the team for the most points in a game, and the 61 point total being highest team score in a game, both eclipsing three-year-old records.

Both Shamrocks teams are undefeated going into week three of the Brisbane Shield at Willawong this Sunday, with Shamrocks mens playing Harps at 12:30pm and Shamrocks ladies facing Easts Celts at 2pm.

Carney starts with a win

30 March 2008 - Shamrocks coach Cameron Carney started Gaelic football’s Brisbane Shield ladies competition with a dominant win against rivals Sarsfields over the weekend.

Shamrocks 7-20-41 beat Sarsfield 1-2-5 while enjoying seven individual scorers.

“Both full forwards Reanna Browne and Sally Cooper played well with plenty of goals and points,” Carney said.

“The backline played well and won most contests giving plenty of possession to the forwards.”

Best on ground was Megan White, with Reanna Browne scoring 6 goals 5 points equalling her personal highest goals from two years ago, and kicking the third highest individual score in team history.

Sally Cooper added 1-5, with reigning team best and fairest Alycia Clayton and Lyndall Daley 3 points apiece.

Both the Shamrocks mens and ladies teams play John Mitchels at Gaelic Park, Willawong, this Sunday 12:30pm and 2:00pm respectively, with the mens team playing its first game of the season.
