Other:  Just after New Jersey's 1999 training camp opened up, Mike, decided to quit school and join Team Canada in training camp.  New Jersey GM Lou Lamorrillo says he does not want to rush Mike, which makes Mike a big prospect for the Albany River Rats for the 1999 season.  For the 1999-2000 season The Hockey News ranked Mike as New Jersey's number one prospect and is saying that Mike is a "sure fire NHLer".

Mike (in front) after Team Canada lost earning the silver medal in the World Juniors Competiton (1999) after a loss to the Russian national team.  Many of the members of the Canadian national team cried after that disappionting loss (including Van Ryn).
