"Em primeiro lugar, quero deixar uma abração para o João Areosa. É um prazer falar com ele e dar os parabéns pela página na Internet e, num futuro próximo, um reencontro num almoço com o nosso amigo Admildo Chirol.

Bem, João , depois da copa de 94, independente do Brasil ser ou não campeão eu já havia decidido que deixaria o comando da Seleção, um processo muito desgastante depois de 3 anos e meio.
Sai da seleção e dez dias depois eu já estava no Valência, clube de tradição na Espanha.
Foi um trabalho interessante, pena que não tenha sido concluído. Fiz um contrato de um ano e sai com 11 meses. Já tinha renovado o contrato por outra temporada, onde poderíamos executar o nosso trabalho, mas me mandaram embora.

Fui então para a Turquia para o Fernerbach, que segundo os turcos, é o clube que tem o maior número de torcedores no mundo, cerca de 25 milhões. Não ganhava um título há oito anos , tivemos sorte, fomos campeões.
Depois fui para o São Paulo, fiquei somente 3 meses e ,então, fui para o Metrostar nos Estados Unidos, um futebol que está se profissionalizando agora, ainda apegado aquelas coisas do futebol deles, está ainda engatinhando, mas com um processo de organização, estão se estruturando É uma organização forte, eles não querem que haja um retrocesso como aconteceu nos anos 70 com o Cosmos e outras equipes que faliram e acabaram não dando resultado. Eles estão com os pés no chão, os salários dos jogadores e treinadores ainda são muito baixos. Apenas permitem quatro ou cinco jogadores estrangeiros por temporada. Já são 10 clubes, esse ano já serão 12 e em futuro próximo serão 14, eu acho que o futebol americano dessa vez veio para ficar.

Eu me lembro que quando eu fui lá para conversar com eles e o dono do clube, que é a quarta maior fortuna dos Estados Unidos,( eles têm programa de satélites, filmes, televisão; são muito fortes na área de comunicação), disse,"meu filho, ( ele tem 84 anos) 10 anos atrás seria muito cedo a gente entrar, daqui a dez anos será muito tarde, a hora é essa da gente investir".
Eles olham o futebol como uma coisa empresarial, como negócio. Visam investir para ter retorno. Eles compraram os direitos do Metrostar por 7 milhões e hoje valem 50 milhões, se alguém quiser recomprar a franquia do Metrostar, terá de pagar 50 milhões de dólares. Em dois anos já foi um negócio muito bom.

As decepções, bem elas acontecem, não foi nem quanto ao Valência Eu me lembro quando conversei com o Capelo, técnico do Milan. Ele ,antes da temporada, contratou 10 jogadores de nome. Eu e o meu auxiliar Mouracy Santana fomos para o Valência de olhos fechados.

Nos não queríamos assumir uma posição dúbia, só iríamos par o Valência depois de terminar a copa, o tempo foi muito curto para a preparação.

Na Europa o treinador vai, contrata jogadores, arma o time.

Nos Estados unidos não conta.

Quero acentuar o excepcional relacionamento que tive com o craque italiano Donadoni,que está com 34 anos e  jogando novamente no Milan.

A ARÁBIA

Sobre a minha ida outra vez para a Arábia, quero dizer que vou com o maior prazer do mundo.

Impressionante, eu fui apanhado de surpresa, estava aqui em casa, me organizando para voltar aos Estados Unidos, quando eles me telefonaram me convidando. Eles são muito orgulhosos pelo que fazem, um dos países mais importantes do mundo por causa do petróleo. Se eles fecharem a torneira, para o mundo...
Foi quase uma exigência do príncipe e dos jogadores. Isso me enche de alegria e de orgulho: a minha volta e com essa responsabilidade toda, tentar fazer o melhor., sei que é muito difícil , mas preciso fazer de tudo, para que jogue com a maior dignidade.

Fui recebido muito bem, pelos dirigentes. Vou ficar um período longe dos amigos, mas vou bem cercado de amigos, pelo Admildo Chirol e o Mouracy Santana, para fazer um bom trabalho.

Arábia - Do time que eu dirigi há dez anos atrás, só tem dois jogadores, que são reservas do time atual, as grandes estrela do futebol saudita, já pararam de jogar.

Nos Estados Unidos eles tiveram uma boa participação, com um time com a base de 90, o clima ajudou, eles passaram para outra fase, uma campanha muito bonita, com o gol mais bonito da copa. A expectativa é muito grande e eles esperam repetir o mesmo que fizeram em 94.

A gente sabe que os momentos e as épocas, as etapas do futebol, nunca podem ser comparadas. Não se pode prometer que se repita o que se fez em 94, o nosso grupo é muito difícil e ainda tem a França,que é a promotora, a dona da casa. A Dinamarca que sempre consegue resultados satisfatórios na Europa e nas copas do mundo.

A África do Sul que, teoricamente, junto com a Arábia são consideradas as mais fracas do grupo, mas chega na copa com o título de campeã Africana, quase todos os jogadores jogam na Europa e com muito mais experiência internacional do que os sauditas.

O importante é trabalhar com muita intensidade, para que o time possa fazer uma boa campanha.

A Arábia deixou uma impressão razoável no torneio da FIFA. Fez um bom primeiro tempo contra o Brasil, decepcionou contra o México e conseguiu vencer a Austrália 1x0, que empatou com o Brasil no primeiro jogo.

Acho que o time precisa melhorar muito, principalmente no preparo físico. Caía muito de produção no segundo tempo e o setor de ataque é muito fraco, desde que perdeu o seu grande goleador, Magi Abdala e não mais se encontrou um jogador de igual potencial. Esperamos que a equipe possa ao menos chegar à segunda fase.

O BRASIL

Sobre o Brasil, depois da Copa de 94, o Zagallo conseguiu o que é muito difícil, que é renovar o time, tendo bons resultados.

Pôs em prática o sistema 4-3-1-2 e só perdeu um jogo, venceu o torneio internacional, não venceu as Olimpíadas, mas venceu a Copa América, primeiro do ranking da FIFA, tem o melhor jogador do mundo e chega como favorito.

Tenho assistido às grandes seleções jogarem, sem dúvida o Brasil é o Melhor.

O Zagallo terá que mostrar aos jogadores que favoritismo não ganha copa.

Se todos os integrantes conseguirem se livrar desse manto do favoritismo e jogarem com a seriedade, disciplina, dedicação como foi em 94, o Brasil tem tudo para ganhar.

A copa será diferente, serão 15 equipes européias contra o Brasil, jogarão no seu ambiente, os jogos serão a noite, portanto , teremos mais uma vez de nos superar.

No Brasil, a novidade é o jogador (1) o quarto jogador do meio campo que o Zagallo tem tentado definir, talvez seja a única posição ainda não definida na seleção.

Eu acho que a opção para isso seria os três de meio campo com Denilson na ponta esquerda.Ele jogou muito bem no torneio da Arábia.

Acho que o Brasil chega pronto e como favorito para tentar mais um título.

ZAGALLO, O MESTRE

Zagallo - Bem o Zagallo é o nosso mestre, eu só tenho elogios para ele.

Sou uma pessoa privilegiado no futebol. Não tendo sido jogador profissional, desde o início tive bons mestres. Na preparação física, o Chirol; na parte tática, o Zagallo. Então, eu com apenas 27 anos já era um campeão do mundo, convidado pelo Chirol para integrar a Comissão técnica de 70.Não é qualquer um que tem o privilégio de trabalhar com gente desse nível.

Aprendi muito com o Zagallo. Na seleção de 70. Em 71, quando estávamos no Fluminense, dois anos no Kuwait, como seu assistente... portanto eu acho o Zagallo um dos maiores técnicos do futebol mundial. É um grande autodidata que esteve sempre um passo a frente em todos os movimentos táticos do futebol, foi o precursor do 4-3-3, quando ele, por iniciativa própria criou o 4-3-3. Antes, era o WM, era  4-2-4 que existiam, e ele criou o 4-3-3, pelas suas características próprias, voltando para fazer o terceiro homem do meio do campo,nas copas de 58 e na de 62, não só para ajudar o Nilton Santos, mas pelas qualidades própria de um estragtegista, um homem de equipe..

Então o Zagallo tem sido sempre assim, um treinador de uma visão muito grande um homem que sabe trabalhar em equipe e para nós ele representa muito. Torço, mesmo treinando outra seleção, que ele saia campeão do mundo mais uma vez, para que haja o reconhecimento, internacional e nacional a esse homem que é o Zagallo, um dos maiores técnico do mundo pelas conquistas e pelo que ele representa.

RONALDINHO

Por que usei pouco o Ronaldinho em 94? Me lembra o caso do Maradona.Para mim, depois do Pelé, o Maradona foi o maior jogador.
O Menoti não o convocou para a copa de 78, porque achava que ele não esta pronto.

O importante é que o Ronaldinho fez parte do grupo em 94 e ganhou experiência.
Eu o vi jogar pelo Cruzeiro nas Libertadores, com excelentes atuações e nós o convocamos. Chegou a jogar bem nos dois jogos amistosos que participou, fazendo gol, sofrendo pênalti, dando bons passes... aos 17 anos ele já mostrava que era um jogador diferenciado.

Apenas quando chegamos nos Estados Unidos, não vou dizer que ele ficou assustado, ele ficou deslumbrado, todo mundo dizendo que ele ia repetir o Pelé, que ia jogar. Mas nós tínhamos dois jogadores que estavam numa fase excepcional:  o Romário e o Bebeto, Não foi preciso trocar, e eles se saíram muito bem até o final. O Ronaldinho sentiu essa pressão, deu uma encolhida talvez psicologicamente e nos treinamentos não mostrou que estava ali para ganhar uma posição, e sim que estava ali para viver aquele momento. E nós tínhamos o próprio Viola que ganhou a vaga do Muller. E estes dois, pelo momento que atravessavam, estavam na frente do Ronaldinho. Acho que foi para ele uma grande experiência.

Em vez de lutar pela vaga. ele se sentia uma fã do Romário, que comentava: "professor ele não larga do meu pé, fica pedindo autógrafo, quer tirar fotografia comigo...".

De fato, ele se tornou um fã do Romário. Se deram muito bem, fizeram amizade.

Bem , então eu acho que ele tinha tudo para, um dia, ser o melhor do mundo e acabou sendo. Foi acertada a nossa posição de convocá-lo Nós esperávamos que ele crescesse, acho até que o crescimento dele surpreendeu no sentido de que apenas em dois anos o Ronaldo se tornou no que ele é hoje , a maior revelação do futebol mundial

OS FAVORITOS

A Arábia ,João, pelo que eu vi não tem craques, eles tem dois bons jogadores, um é o Sahid Overam, aquele que marcou o mais belo gol da copa, contra a Bélgica e que teve problemas no pais, chegando a ser preso por mais de um ano e o Goleiro Daied. Os outros são esforçados.

Os favoritos? É um exercício muito difícil de ser feito.
Pesa muito, a tradição, a qualidade, a cultura esportiva

Brasil - Argentina que poderá formar uma grande seleção - Em matéria de ataque, é a única que se ombreia com o Brasil

Segundo o Platini e o Beckembauer, a Inglaterra foi a que mais evoluiu.

A Iugoslávia tem um time bom, mas se afastou muito das grandes competições. Mas pela qualidade técnica, pode fazer uma boa copa.

A França , vive um problema grande, porque não sabe como o time vai reagir ao favoritismo por jogar em casa. Eles têm bons jogadores com experiência, mas segundo a imprensa local, falta um matador, um homem que decida, que faça gols.

Alemanha, pela tradição, não pode ser descartada.

Holanda tem também uma boa equipe

Itália, ainda não se acertou como  equipe, mas tem bons jogadores e é uma tricampeã. Costuma iniciar mal e terminar bem
