It was an interesting first season.
The dolphins were the class of the AFC finishing 14-2. 49ers were ruling the NFC with a 13-3 record. The lions limped in to the playoffs with a 10-6 record. Andrew's Chiefs missed the playoffs with a disappointing record of 8-7-1.
Barry Sanders came on strong to lead the Lions all the way up to the NFC championship game. There he was pitted against the 49ers. By some brilliant strategy and play calling he was able to pull the upset and advance to the Super Bowl.
The AFC was a different story. The Dolphins were a victim of one of the greatest upsets in NFL history. The Broncos came out of no where and were able to know off the #1 offense in the league. They then lost to Houston in the AFC championship game.
The Super Bowl pitted the upstart Lions against the high flying computer controlled Oilers. It was nip and tuck right down to the wire but Barry Sanders was just too much. The lions prevailed and the lions were champions of the world. I think that Sanders got voted Super Bowl MVP.
