Book of Shade
Where where you? let's move on, eh?

Allâh

Magus Thomas Potter; 2001

This is drawn from the teachings of Nanuk, the first guru of The Sikhs.

Can Allâh dwell in an image or name? He takes no satisfaction in the external forms of religion — rituals, scriptures, pilgrimages, asceticism, special baths, and the like. If they lack meaning or the practitioner is without sincerity, then these external forms are as tombs, cold, worthless, and forgotten.

Allâh is manifest in manifold ways and in manifold places and is called by manifold names. Nevertheless, He is eternally one, sovereign, and omnipotent: at once transcendent and immanent, the creator and matrix.

Religion consists not in a patched coat, nor in a yogi's posture, nor in ashes over the head. Religion consists not in earrings worn or a shaven head, the blowing of trumpets or the beating of drums. Religion consists not in wandering to tombs or wombs, nor sitting in attitudes of contemplation.

Let compassion be your mosque. Let faith be your prayer mat. Let honest living be your Qur’ân. Let modesty be the rule of observance. Let piety be the fast you keep. In such wise strive to be a Muslim: right conduct is your ka’ba, truth your prophet, good deeds your prayer. Participation in Allâh’s will is your Prayer bead. Do this and the world will be your defense.
