Essays for Dragons

The Dragons’ Nest is dedicated to the Traditional or eclectic Witch. The Witch has traditionally been a teacher for her or his community. We have established The Dragons’ Nest with the focus of ethics, philosophy, and religion. Posted here are most of the essays by Magus Thomas Potter. These essays are presented, not as something to believe or follow blindly. They are here for your consideration and reading pleasure. Mastering Magic requires intelligence and responsibility. These essays are here to point out the answers this magus has found. Read them, and find your own answers.

In Sputnik We Trust
If you don’t like the way the world is, you can get out, be changed by it, or change it. It is the Responsibility, and within the power of, every Magus, Witch and Satanist to change the world for the better. This essay reviews some history and concerns for our American educational program.
… And may Enlightenment Strike Twice …
Lao-tzu observed, “To know others is to be wise, to know oneself is to be enlightened.” Enlightenment and the pursuit of truth require self awareness. This is largely because we bring ourselves to the observation of the universe.
Contemplations on Deity
One of the most asked questions to the Witch is, “So, what do you worship?” After we supress the urge to giggle, or say something rather silly, we may give a patented answer. This is a question that has more answers than there have ever been Witches, Jews, or Hindus combined. This essay is presented in the light of helping you think this through for yourself.
Tai-chi Chuan
This meditative exercise can be a welcomed relief, whether for a daily devotion to the God who is yourself, or as preparation for that moment of ritual.
Responsibilities
When we start on a new adventure, arrive at a new country, or enter a different restaurant, we hardly know what to do. A Witch must be aware of how he or she affects their environment. A Witch’s best shield against fear and hate are love and stability in the mind of him who wears her. To use the Pentacle as a weapon is to rape the maiden head of truth and the Existential moksha that truly empower the Witch.
The Burden of the Counselor
We often call upon a minister to counsel and hear confessions. This can place us into an ethical situation. This essay tries to explain some Ethical concerns of a Counselor.
Capital Punishment
For someone to be on Death Row, someone else had to die first. Clearly, society may not have done enough to prevent the first death. Capital Punishment is too much too late. The question to be answered is, “Why did we wait to provide a remedy.” We ought to suspend the Death Penalty, and reevaluate the issues addressed here, including the people on death row. Evaluating these people will help us understand better the events that lead up to that first murder. To accomplish this would require comprehensive changes in national policy, a revolution of the mind. Until then, we may wonder how many “Einstein’s” we have in prison.
